  • Norman Hooper enlisted in the AIF on 23 January 1917 in Ipswich. Regimental Number 2314, QX He was 18 years and 6 months old, a labourer born Boonah. His next of kin was listed as his mother Caroline Hooper c/- Post Office, Boonah. He was 5'7" tall, 144 lbs, with grey eyes, fair hair and a fresh complexion. He was a trooper in the 11th Lighhorse. He served in the Suez and was hospitalised with Malaria in October 1917 and spent time in hospital in Abbassia, Moascar before going to Palestine. He was again hospitalised numerous time until he returned to Australia on 20 July 1919. He was discharged on 28 August 1919. Norman Hooper of the 11th Light Horse was involved in a court martial on 25 November 1918, but nothing appears on his service record, although some lines of information are missing around that date - from the Archives [HOOPER Norman : Service Number - 2314 : Unit - 11th Australian Light Horse Regiment, Australian Imperial Force : HOWELL Albert John Robert 2073, 1st Field Troop, Australian Expedition, Australian Imperial Force : Date of Court Martial - 25 November 1918].
  • At the age of 20 years, Norman Hooper married Isabel Ada McMullen, daughter of James Edward McMullen and Charlotte Freestone, in 1920 in Queensland.
  • Norman Hooper enlisted in the Military in Brisbane. The date of enlistment is unknown as is his service record. He may have joined the Civil Defense Service. His record number was QX190. Isabel Hooper was listed ais next of kin.
  • On 20 November 1941 Norman Hooper and Isabel Ada McMullen lived in Roma, Queensland. when their son Edgar died when the HMAS Sydney was sunk off the coast of Western Australia in WWII.

    His funeral notice appeared in the Ipswich paper on Friday March 23 1917. It read "FUNERAL-The Friends of Mr JOHN HOOPER, sen., deceased, of Boonah, are respectfully invited to attend his Funeral, to leave his late residence, Church Street, for the Boonah Cemetery, at 2 o'clock TOMORROW (SATURDAY) AFTERNOON. W H Abell Undertaker."

    I give my goods and chattels to the same Robert Hooper with the proviso that if Thomas Hooper my son should return that Robert Hooper shall give him proportion of my best bed on which I have lain with the bedstead and bedding.
