  • In September 1954 a photograph of all of the Maddern children appeared in the local paper in September 1954. The article under the photo read:- "The Maddern family, "three boys and three girls", with their wives and husbands, held a reunion dinner in Queen's Park kiosk on Saturday on the occasion of Mr and Mrs O Maddern's forty-second wedding anniversary. The "boys" and "girls" are the children of the late John Maddern, Cornish-born farmer who died in 1933 and who took up land in the Crow's Nest District 74 years ago.   • Lucy and Gwilym sold their farm "Woodvale" in 1979 and moved to South Street Toowoomba where they lived until failing health caused them to move into the "Kingswood" hostel at the Toowoomba Garden Settlement.
  • Gwilym Jenkin Whittaker and Lucy Ida Phyllis Maddern appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1980 living at Kingswood, Stenner Street, Toowoomba.
  • On 14 June 1989,his wife, Lucy Ida Phyllis Maddern died in Toowomba, Queensland, at age 88. In her later years Lucy suffered from dementure.
