The late Mr. Littleton had lived in the Crow's Nest district for over 40 years. He opened the Pinelands State School in 1888, and acted, as school teacher for a long period. About 1914 he suffered a severe nervous break down, and had been in indifferent health since then. He took a very active interest in the welfare of the Show Society, being patron for a number of years. He donated several cups, and was a consistent exhibitor, winning many prizes, He leaves a widow, three daughters, and six sons - Mrs. A. Davis (Esk). Nurse Edna Littleton (Brisbane), and Miss Mona Littleton (Pinelands), and Messrs. Ven., Ivor, Roy, Val, John, and Colin Littleton, all of Pinelands. The deceased'a brothers are Messrs. A. T. Littleton (Chairman of the Crow's Nest Shire Council); E, T. Littleton (Sladevlle, Warwick), Francis Harold , and Stanley Westley. His sisters are Mrs. Gowlett (Toowoomba) and Miss Grace Littleton Brisbane). The funeral took place yesterday from the Methodist Church, to the Crow's Nest cemetery.4,5,6

Mr. John Harden Littleton of Pine lands, who was known as the "father" of Crow's Nest, was found, shot through the head, at the back of the house at which he was staying, on Tuesday night. The late Mr. Littleton had lived in the Crow's Nest district for over 40 years. He opened the Pinelands State School in 1888, and acted, as school teacher for a long period. About 1914 he suffered a severe nervous break down, and had been in indifferent health since then. He took a very active interest in the welfare of the Show Society, being patron for a number of years. He donated several cups, and was a consistent exhibitor, winning many prizes, He leaves a widow, three daughters, and six sons - Mrs. A. Davis (Esk). Nurse Edna Littleton (Brisbane), and Miss Mona Littleton (Pinelands), and Messrs. Ven., Ivor, Roy, Val, John, and Colin Littleton, all of Pinelands. The deceased'a brothers are Messrs. A. T. Littleton (Chairman of the Crow's Nest Shire Council); E, T. Littleton (Sladevlle, Warwick), Francis Harold , and Stanley Westley. His sisters are Mrs. Gowlett (Toowoomba) and Miss Grace Littleton Brisbane). The funeral took place yesterday from the Methodist Church, to the Crow's Nest cemetery.8,9,10
  • He was buried on 23 August 1929 in Crow's Nest Cemetery following a service at the Methodist Church.9,10

  • He was the son of Hugh Littleton and Ann Ball Stephens.4
  • At the time of the 7 June 1841 census John Thomas Littleton was living in the household of Hugh Littleton and Ann Ball Stephens in West Street, Maker. Hugh, a butcher, and Ann, both 35, lived with their children including John aged 12. Hugh's 98 year old father also lived with the family. They were all born in Cornwall.5
  • At the time of the 30 March 1851 census John Thomas Littleton was living in the household of Ann Ball Stephens. Ann, was shown as a widowed 35 year old house keeper born Millbrook. Living with her was her children including Thomas, a 22 year old butcher, born Millbrook Devon, and Ellen a 6 year old scholar born Cawsand, Cornwall.5
  • At the age of 32 years, 4 months and 30 days, John Thomas Littleton married Harriet Ball on 16 September 1861 in Pittenween, Fife, Scotland. They arrived in Australia sometime in in 1862 and John found work at Gowrie Creek.1,3,6

Ralph died from a bullet wound to the head after a Winchester pea rifle discharged. An inquest was held into his death as reported by The Brisbane Courier on 25 November 1912 - An inquiry was held today into the circumstances of the death of Ralph Littleton Gowlett, of Highfields road, who was, found dead with a bullet wound in his head on November 6 in a dairy at his fathers residence. Evidence was given by Thomas Gowlett (father of the deceased), Mrs. Gowlett (mother), and Constable Scanlon who produced a certifificate from Dr Freshney showing that the immediate cause of death was a bullet wound in the brain with hemorrhage supervening. His evidence indicated that the wound was inflicted by a Winchester pea rifle accidentally exploded. Sergeant MCCarthy conducted the examination of
    witnesses.6,7

The following article appeared in The Queenslander on 3 Feb 1923:- The marriage of Mr. A.G. Davies (Crow's Nest) and Miss M. Littleton (daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Littleton , Pinelands, Crow's Nest, and a great niece of Mrs. V. H. Groom, Toowoomba) was solemnised at the Toowoomba Methodist Church on January 24. The bride was given away by her brother, Mr. R. Littleton. Her travelling gown was of navy blue crepe de Chine, with bodice and loose panels, being braided and bended in henna, and a navy blue hat, lined with henna, and finished with, flowers in the same tones. Miss Edna Littleton (her sister) attended as bridesmaid, and wore apricot charmante, piped with black, and a black hat. Mr. Arthur. Hillenberg was best man. The reception was held at the Cafe Alexandra. The honeymoon will be spent at Brisbane and the seaside.3,4

Davis, baker and confectioner, is finding excellent business in Esk. He has taken over the shop recently owned by Mr. J. W. Hurford, who established a sound connection by producing excellent bread and smallgoods. Mr. Davis, who is a returned soldier, is maintaining the reputation of the business in this regard. A cafe also is conducted on superior lines.5
