  • Thomas Brennan was born in 1845 in Castlecomer, County Kilkenny, Ireland. He was the son of Edward Brennan and Mary O'Shea.1
  • He immigrated to Queensland on 21 May 1867. Thomas 18, and John travelled on the Light Brigade. They were both from Castlecomer, Kilkenny and could both read and write. They were of the Catholic faith.2
  • In 1870 Thomas selected property at Hampton and called it Black Springs. The property was passed down to his son Martin, and then grandson Neville.3
  • At the age of 37 years, Thomas Brennan married Jane Meldon, daughter of Martin Meldon and Esther (Hester) Dunne, on 27 April 1882 in Queensland.1,4
  • Conditional approval for Thomas Brennan and Thomas Brennan's selection of landwas given on 24 November 1888. He selected 79 acres of land at Deongwar (near Ravensbourne). "For the agricultural township farms adjoining the village of Ravensbourne there was great competition, many of the portions being applied for from four to ten times over. The ballot had to be resorted to in no less than 50 cases; this, with the refunding of the amounts paid by the unsuccessful applicants, necessarily occupied a deal of time, and it was not till half-past 6 O'clock that the business was concluded, and the court closed. By 7 o'clock the whole of the refundments had been paid over to 115 applicants. The 76 portions adjoining the village of Ravensbourne, granted at the land court, were apportioned among 62 selectors, so there is every probability of the village settlement of Ravensbourne proving a success. The total area granted at the court was 5025 acres among 68 applicants."5
  • He was a creditor of the insolvent estate of Cameron and Hebbel. A meeting of creditors in the insolvent estate of John Cameron and John Heinrich Hebbel trading as timber merchants of Toowoomba took place in Toowoomba. Amongst the creditors were Thomas Cullen £10 3s 4d, Thomas Brennan £39; H A Shum £34; Claud Cronk 44; George Parton £22.6

  • In 1901 Thomas was listed as a farmer of Hampton in the Crow's Nest Post Office Directory.7
