  • Emily Halloway and Joseph (Joe) Edser immigrated to Moreton Bay on 15 November 1873. Joseph, 29 and Emily 24, travelled on the Gauntlet which left London on 15 Aug 1873. With them were their children Lucy 5, Edith 3 and Emily 1 who died on the voyage. The passengers disembarked at Ipswich.
  • After Phoebe's birth the family move to a railway work camp at Murphy's Creek.
  • Emily Halloway died on 26 October 1890 in Queensland. She died from peritonitis caused by obstruction of the bowel.

John 36, and his wife Susan 31 travelled on the "Conrad" with their children Harriet 10, Elilza 7, George 4 and Anne 2. A son, William, was born on board the ship. John's sister Ann and her husband were also on the ship which arrived on 4 August.
  • Sometime between 1857 and 1859, Susan Hamlin and John Burgess and their family moved to New South Wales.John's brother Samuel had established his family there several years before.

  • At the age of 21 years, Emily Elizabeth Crocker Hamlyn married Thomas Hamlyn, son of John Hamlyn and Sarah Phillips, on 20 January 1879 in Pechey, Queensland. Their marriage was announced in The Darling Downs Gazette -"
    MARRIAGE HAMLYN— HAMLYN.—On January 20, at the Albert Mills, Highfields, by the Rev. T. Thatcher, of Gympie,Thomas, second son of John Hamlyn of Hartley Vale, to Emily Elizabeth Crocker, daughter of the late John Hamlyn, of Devonshire, England."
  • Emily Elizabeth Crocker Hamlyn and Thomas Hamlyn appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1903 living at Geham. Thomas was a farmer and Emily carried out home duties, while their son Walter was a labourer.
  • Around 1907 Emily Elizabeth Crocker Hamlyn and Thomas Hamlyn moved to Taroom.While living in the district John was a member of the Taroom Shire Council for 3 years before they retired to Southport in 1926.
  • On 19 January 1929 Thomas and Emily celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. The event was recounted in the local Southport paper :-"Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hamlyn, of Noss (Southport), are celebrating their diamond wedding today. They came to Australia in the ship 'Young Australia' in 1865. Both were born, in Devonshire, and Mr Hamlyn, who is 80 years old, was. only seven when he sailed for Queensland with his parents, the late Mr and Mrs John Hamlyn. Mrs Hamlyn, who also came out with her parents, did not change her name at marriage, as she was a distant relative of the bridegroom, her maiden name being Emily Elizabeth Crocker Hamlyn. She will be 78 on Monday. She lived at Ipswich and Brisbane before her marriage to Mr Hamlyn at Albert Sawmills (now Pechey), near Crow's Nest, by the late Rev T. Thatcher, on January 20th, 1879. Mr Hamlyn's parents were pioneers of Geham, in the Highfields distict, and he was one of the first pupils at the Geham State School. Mr and Mrs. Hamlyn followed farming pursuits at Geham until 1907, when they, took up a grazing property in the Taroom district. They lived there until they retired in 1926, and came to Southport. Mr Hamlyn was a member of the Highfields Shire Council for 15 years and a member of the Taroom council for three years. He is a member of the Southport Masonic Lodge and Bowling Club and is a very keen player. Mr. and Mrs Hamlyn have four sons Messrs T. S, (Indooroopilly), W. L., L J, and R. D. Hamlyn (Wandoan), four daughters, Miss A. S. Hamlyn (Albion) Mesdames W.R. Poulton (Toowoomba), W. Dascombe (Wandoan) , and J E Freeman (Theodore), and 19 grandchildren."

    A happy gathering of relatives and friends were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hamlyn, at their residence, Noss, Main Beach Road, Southport, last Staturday afternoon, to celebrate their golden wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Hamlyn (who are aged 71 and 68 respectively) were married at
    Albert Mills, Crow's Nest, Queensland, on January 20, 1879, by the Rev. T. Thatcher. They have four sons, four daughters, and 17 grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Hamlyn lived for 30 years in te Crow's Nest district, and Mr. Hamlyn was a member of the Highfields Shire Council for 15 years and also a member of the Taroom Shire Council for several years. He has been a Justice of the Peace for many years, and a member of the Justices' Association of Queensland; also a member of the Southport Masonic Lodge, and the Southport Bowling Club. The Wedding breakfast was partaken of at Mrs. Norman's tearoom, adjoining Mr. Hamlyn's residence, the Rev. C. A. Read presiding. The chairman, in proposing. the toast of "The Bride and Bridegroom," spoke in eulogistic terms of the honorable lives lived by Mr. and Mrs. Hamlyn duirng their 50 years of happy married life, and Mr. Hamlyn responded in suitable terms on behalf of himself and wife stating that he and the girl who afterwards became his wife both landed in Brisbane in 1865, coming out from England by the same boat. Mr. J. Stone, Mrs. T. Hamlyn's stepfather (who is 90 years of age) was also among the speakers. A unique feature of the gathering was the presence at the table of the lady and gentleman who had acted as bridesmaid and best man for Mr. and Mrs. T. Hamlyn at their marriage 50 years ago. These were Mr. H. Hamlyn (Helidon) and Mrs. D. Jones (Kelvin Grove), and the toast of their health was enthusiastically honored, followed by other toasts, the speakers including Messrs. J. Stone, D. M. Campbell."
  • Emily Elizabeth Crocker Hamlyn died on 10 August 1943 in Queensland.
  • She was cremated on 11 August 1943 in Mt Thompson Crematorium.
