  • Amelia Catherine Thorn was baptized on 9 April 1826 in Somerset, England.
  • She immigrated to New Zealand on 14 December 1842. on the Bombay with her mother and second husband Mr Carter and their children and her brother John.
  • At the age of 18 years, 11 months and 29 days, Amelia Catherine Thorn married William Eyles, son of Daniel Eyles and Jane Primmer, on 7 April 1845 in New Zealand.
  • In 1864 Amelia Catherine Thorn and William Eyles lived in New Zealand. Their son William Daniel aged 1 year and 10 months drowned in the creek at Waimae South on 5 January that year. The family lived on the corner of Hill Street and Champion Road.
  • On 31 July 1875,her husband, William Eyles died in New Zealand at age 52. He died from pneumonia.
  • Amelia Catherine Thorn died on 22 March 1908 in New Zealand at age 81. Catherine's death was announced in the Nelson Evening Mail :- DEATH. EYLES.— On March 22nd, 1908, Catherine Amelia, relict of the late William Eyles, of Richmond, aged 82 years, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs Edward Mytton, Thorpe.
