  • George Bussett witnessed the marriage of Sampson Chambers and Jane Jones on 20 May 1850 in Birmingham, Bishops Ryder, Warwick, England; Sampson was a labourer at the time of his marriage, he was of full age and lived in Novascotia Street. His father, John Chambers was shown as a labour. He signed with his X mark. Jane was shown as a spinster of full age (even though she was just 17), father John Jones a carpenter. The witnesses were George Bussett who signed with his X mark and Ann Durose. Neither Jane or Ann signed the document.2,3

He was a 21 year old unmarried farmer and gave his next of kin as his father Josiah BUTLER of firstly Nook, then Flora Street, West Ulverstone. Claude was 5'11" tall weighing 175 pound with fair hair, blue eyes and light brown hair.
    On 24 August 1916 her left Melbourne on the HMAT "Botanist" for England.3
  • Claude Arthur Butler died on 26 July 1917 in Fargo Military Hospital, England, at age 22. He died from tubercularperidpnitis.1,2
  • He was buried in Durrington Cemetery, Whiltshire.4

She returned occasionally for a few days, with bills to pay and then after arguements with Charlie would return to Toowoomba.5,1

  • On 29 September 1928.his obituary appeard in The Brisbane Courier. It read:- On September 19, at his residence, Crow's Nest, the death took place of Mr. John Henry Butters, one of the early settlers of the district, at the age of 68 years. The late Mr. Butters was bom in Lincolnshire, England, arriving in Queensland 48 years ago, and a few years later he selected land in the Crow's Nest district. He was an active worker in all movements for the progress of the district. When the local butter factory was established he was a director, and to him is credited In no small measure its ultimate success. He was also a very prominent worked in Church affairs, and at the time of his death was the first and oldest local,preacher of the Methodist Church in the dis- trict. He filled also the position of circuit steward. The late Mr. Butters was married to Miss Ruth Walker, of Toowoomba, 35 years ago, and is survived by his widow and three sons -Francis, Joseph, and John Norman (Crow's Nest) and Edmond Henry (Brisbane). Mrs. Butters is the president of the Crow's Nest branch of the Country Women's Association. The funeral left the Methodist Church on Thursday for the Crow's Nest Cemetery, where the Rev. J. Sterling officiated.7
