• Frances Susan (Marion) Noblett was orphaned in March 1851 when her mother was accidentally drowned in a boating accident in Rushcutters Bay. Her father had died just ten weeks before from "a lingering illness", perhaps tuberculosis. Marion's father had made specific arrangements for the welfare of his daughter and named Charles Newton an auctioneer of Sydney and Christopher Newton a Draper as her legal guardians. John Woods was a witness. Marion grew up in a house called "Retreat Cottage" in Newtown Sydney perhaps in the household of one of the Newton brothers. At some stage the Newtons moved to Rockhampton to establish a drapery there and Marion went with them.
  Marion was employed in domestic service by the Little family who lived on "Rosedale" Station south of Rockhampton. It was while she lived at here that she met James Murray of "Greenvale" Station a few miles north of her employer's property.

After working some years for the late William Turner of Helidon, he moved to the vicinity of Ipswich, where farming was followed until successive floods drove him to Toowoomba, where he worked as a teamster and drew some of the timber for the present bridges over the creeks here. He also ploughed up Ruthven-Street when it was first being formed. In later years deceased was well known for his skill amongst ailing stock, but latterly impaired health compelled a less active life, and a few weeks ago he became a patient at the General Hospital, where he passed peacefully away on Monday at about 5.30 p.m. His. wife predeceased him by twelve years. The living members of the family are James and John (Crow's, Nest), Joseph, Patrick, Mrs. W. H. Callaghan of this town, and Mrs. Edwards of Edwardston. The funeral is timed to leave the residence of his son-in-law Mr. W. H. Callaghan."

  Councillor James Nolan first came to Crow's Nest in 1878 (writes our correpondent). Up to that time he and his father had been engaged in grazing pursuits on the Downs. The season was a dry one, and Mr. Nolan jun, who was then but a youth, made for Crow's Nest, in quest of relief country. He was so pleased with what he saw that he immediately secured country. Crow's Nest became his home, and to say that he he been prosperous is but a poor way of expressing the success his labours have met with, for he is now a large holder of town and country properties. It can be safely asserted that there is not another man with as wide a knowledge of the district as Mr Nolan. For 14 years he acted as foreman for the late E W Pechey, and the greater portion of that time was spent in scouring the country looking for timber tracts and opening up tracts for the haulers. Nearly all the timber tracks in the district were opened by him and it was Mr Alf Merritt (first clerk of the Highfields Shire) who blazed the road from what is now known as Lawson's farm (then Goulds) to Emu Creek. When the railway line to Crow's Nest was opened Mr Nolan supervised the loading of the first log. For the past nine years Mr Nolan has represented Crow's Nest in the Highfields Shire Council and he was a keen mover in the matter of the separation which, was recently effected. When the poll was taken for the new shire Mr Nolan headed it by a large majority, and of all the elected was the only man who had previously held a seat in a council. His election as Chairman was unanimous, and with his experience, together with the fact that he has the interest of town and district keenly at heart, the coming year under his direction should prove a very successful one."
  
• He was granted probate for the estate of Patrick Skelly on on 14 April 1913; It was published in the Brisbane Courier - "Skelly, Patrick, late of Brisbane, but formerly of Crow's Nest, selector ; died November 2 1912 ; realty £1500, personally £388. Probate granted to J.Nolan, of Crow's Nest grazier, and Bernard Skelly, of the same place, storekeeper. W. J. Garde (by Ure and Nicholson), solicitor.
• In 1919 Both James and John were living at Crow's Nest when their brother Joseph died in 1919 in Toowoomba.
• In May 1922 The Courier Mail reported that James had been thrown from a young horse while riding near Mossview School. A young boy with him went for assistance and James was later tended by Dr Williams at Crow's Nest.
