• On 25 Sep 1842, James was described as a stokeeper when he and GP Plunket proved a bond for the medical treatment of James Smith in H.M. Hospital, Moreton Bay.
  He is mentioned in the biography of William Charles Smith - convict -"He (Smith) became overseer for Burnett, was commended for his service and, after receiving his ticket-of-leave on 3 February 1843, stayed with him on his survey of the Richmond and Clarence rivers. He then worked for James Canning Pearce at Helidon station; a skirmish there with Aboriginals led him to write a mock epic poem, 'The Raid of the Aboriginals', under the pseudonym 'James Arrowsmith Cordwainer'. It cleverly satirized the behaviour of the local squatters and is the earliest evidence of Wilkes's liberal politics ".
  The name of CROW'S NEST was derived from the pastoral run name used by James Canning Pearce in 1848.
  In Feb 1858 James was involved in a legal case concerning the Police Magistrate of Ipswich and the North Austalian paper which he wished to sue for libel. He was described as James Canning Pearce of Ipswich, gentleman.

Louisa Pearce

• At the age of 21 years, 10 months and 8 days, Louisa Pearce married Henry Newton on 27 April 1875 in Church of St Mary the Virgin, Cardiff, Wales.
• In 1892 the family moved to a selection on Emu Creek, at Djuan in the Haden District. in 1900 they purchased Portion 3 at Djuan, 690 acres. They built their house on this land and gradually expanded their holdings to over 2000 acres, including that of their son John. Here they milked over 100 cows by hand and ran a very successful dairy and cheese factory. "Old Newton's Cheese" was very much in demand.
  
• Louisa Pearce and Henry Newton appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1903 living at Djuan. Henry was a farmer. Their son John William was also farming at Djuan and most likely lived with them.
  
• In 1913 Henry and Lousia sold the farm at Emu Creek and moved to Square Top near Dalby where they named their farm Rowden Farm after Louisa's birthplace in Wildshire.
