However, this William was a Roman Catholic and stated his parents were Welsh.

Ludford, of Blackbutt,has been taking round a petition, which has now numerous signatures, for a tri-weekly mail service from Blackbut tto Crow's Nest or to Emu Creek at Mr.Patches, where it could meet the Crow's Nest Emu Creek service. At present mails from here to Blackbutt goes first to Toowoomba, then Ipswich, on to Kannangur by rail, from there to Thandowie by coach, then by horse to Blackbutt, making in all a distance of 190 miles. From here to Blackbutt is only 38 miles, and from Emu Creek to Blackbutt 18 miles.

- The following article appeared in the the Capricornian on 12 March 1923. "Mr W J Ludford, a native of London, born of Welsh parents, came to Australia in 1884 and was farming and breeding horses in the Blackbutt district for a number of years. Whilst there he read in the papers an account of the opening of selections in the Dawson Valley with a description of the land offered. After coming up and inspecting the land he returned to Blackbutt, settled up his affairs, and came back and secured his present farm on 90 acres of nice brown sandy loam, situated within half a mile of the Wowan railway station. He afterwards acquired 175 acres of land on the opposite side of the line, but this he has since sold to advantage. He also purchased a number of town allotments, some of which he still owns, and on one of these is situated the manager's residence and premises of the ABC Bank. Further away is the residence of the manager of the local butter factory, leased from Mr Ludford by the directors for that purpose. Mr Ludford has been a member of the Progress Association since it was instituted and claims to be one of the only three members out of forty who have kept good their membership right throughout. He is a lover of horses and for nearly forty years has been a breeder in a small way of both bloods and draughts. He generally has something in the way of horseflesh worth looking at in his paddocks. He takes a great interest in all public matters affecting the town and district, and any meeting of the kind is not considered complete unless "Joe" is present."

Through her next friend, Ludke (her father), the child had claimed damages amounting to £741 from Frederick Charles Tigell, of Jones' Gully, Crow's Nest, and James John Cook, of Harlaxton."

Edwin Ludke (16), son of Mr. George Ludke, a well-known Cooyar farmer, was seriously injured in a shooting accident at mid-day to-day. While he was helping his father and a younger brother to search for dingoes which had killed a calf, his brother's rifle accidentally dis- charged a bullet into the back of Edwin's neck, near the spine, and came out near the front of his face. Paralysed in both legs, but still conscious, he was treated by Ambulance bearers. and taken to the Toowoomba Hospital. The boys were riding on the one horse, and the younger brother was holding the .22 calibre rifle along the saddle as they passed through the rough scrub. About a mile from Cooyar the horse became restless and the trigger of the rifle caught in the saddle."
