  • Wilhelm Hermann Lowien was born on 31 August 1883 in Meringandan, Queensland.
  • He was the son of Gottfried Lowien and Louisa Tabel.
  • William grew up on the family farm at Meringandan. He found work as a bore contractor with the Volp family of Highfields.
  • Wilhelm Hermann Lowien began military service on 18 September 1917 in Maryborough. He listed his mother, Louisa as his next of kin and was farming at Mannum Creek near Kingaroy at the time he enlisted. His service number was 7089 and he joined the 21st Batallion.
  • He was killed in action on 12 June 1918 in France at age 34. A memorial cross was erected for him in the Beacon British Cemetery.

  • On 24 April 1930,her husband, August Hannemann died in Haden, Queensland. The Courier Mail reported:- "
    As Mr. August Hannemann, of Haden, was returning from a school committee meetmg with Messrs. T. D. Schultz and J C Naumann last Wednesday evening, he was thrown from his horse and killed. The party separated at the railway gates, and a moment later Messrs. Schultz and Naumann heard a noise which sounded like a horse falling. On investigation they found Mr. Hannemann lying on the ground beside a small culvert. The Toowoomba Ambulance Brigade was summoned, but on arrival it was found that Mr. Hannemann was dead. He is survived by his widow and six children. The funeral was the largest seen in the district, and Pastor Prenzler conducted the service.
