  • Thomas James Bennett was born on 16 July 1855 in Tasmania. He was the son of James Bennett and Mary Ann Bonney.
  • At the age of 34 years, 7 months and 17 days, Thomas James Bennett married Eliza Burgess, daughter of George Burgess and Mary Ann Smith, on 5 March 1890 in Tasmania. They were married in the home of J Bennett, Thomas' father in Elizabeth Town. She was 26 and he was 32 years old, a labourer.
  • Thomas James Bennett died on 7 January 1936 in North Motton at age 80. The Advocate reported his death on 10 Jan 1936 -" Mr. Thomas Bennett, who passed away on Tuesday at North Motton was aged 83 years. He married Miss Eliza Burgess, of Elizabethtown, and went to reside at North Motton, where he had lived for 47 years, and was well known and highly respected. His family numbered ten, five sons and five daughters, all of whom are alive; they are Mesdames A. Johnson (Victoria) Fred Hall (North Motton), H. O. Allen (Edith Creek), H. Johnson (Victoria), and Sturzaker (Ulverstone), and Messrs George (Preston), Andrew and John (Hobart), James (Gippsland), and Reg. (North Motton). Deceased had been in ill-health for about three years. His passing was quite peaceful. The funeral took place at the Anglican cemetery, Ulverstone, yesterday afternoon, Rev. B. S. Hammond officiating. There was a large number of followers. The chief mourners were Messrs. A. G., W. J., L. J., and R. (sons), and A. and C. Burgess (brothers-in-law); and F. Hall (son-in-law). The carriers were four grandsons Messrs. R. and B. Bennett, and J. and H. Hall. Messrs. A. and C. Burgess, J. Chilcott, and W. Woods were the pall-bearers."

  • He was transported to Sydney in 1832. He had been sentenced to 7 years for assult and arrived on the Dunvegan Castle. He received his Certificate of Freedom on 1 July 1840.
  • At the age of 36 years, William Bennett married Emma Dalley, daughter of Samuel Hockey and Mary Dalley, on 9 July 1852 in Guyong. The marriage was conducted by Samuel Wilkinson, minister of the Wesleyan Church of which Emma was a Member. William was a member of the Roman Church. Both Emma and William lived at King's Plains as did their witnesses Bernard Rennie and Mrs Mary Pendray. Both Emma and William signed with their mark.
  • William Bennett died on 21 August 1875 in New South Wales. He died from chronic rheumatism. He was a shepherd aged 60 years according to the information given by his wife Emma. He had been born in Ireland and arrived in NSW 43 years ago. He had been married 23 years and had 3 living sons, 3 living daughters and 3 deceased sons.

  • Elizabeth Jane Bentley was born on 14 December 1867 in Terri Hie Hie, New South Wales, Australia.
  • She was the daughter of William Bentley and Phoebe Chapman.
  • In 1890 he was Domestic Servant.
  • At the age of 22 years, 7 months and 8 days, Elizabeth Jane Bentley married George French, son of William French and Elizabeth Baker, on 22 July 1890 in Warwick Rd, New South Wales. George was a 22 year old bachelor, farm labourer of Mingoola (a property west of Tenterfield on the Bruxner Highway) - father William French, a farm labourer and mother Elizabeth Baker. Elizabeth was a spinster aged 22, a domestic servant living at Mingoola, parents William Bentley, a driver and Phoebe Chapman. George's sister Ellen and her husband William Holley were witnesses to George and Elizabeth's marriage held in the Holley residence, Warwick Road, Tenterfield according to the rites of the Wesleyan Church. The minister was John Hulme.
  • Elizabeth Jane Bentley and George French moved to in Toowoomba, Queensland, circa 1907 with their family, most likely some time after the birth of their eight child Alice Ruby. George's sister Elizabeth Werner and her husband and family also moved to the area a year or so earlier. George and Elizabeth's last two children, twins, Ada and Ellen were born at the home of George's sister Elizabeth Werner in Toowomba.
