• At the age of 20 years, 4 months and 20 days, Olive May Gowlett married Francis Burton Deeth, son of Charles Burton Death and Ellen Matilda Barnes, on 10 June 1925 in Queensland. The details of their wedding were reported in The Queenslander :- "At the Methodist Church, Crow's Nest, on June 10, the marriage was solemnised of Mr. Francis (Frank) Burton Deeth (eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. C.B.Deeth, Linville, Pechey) and Miss Olive May Gowlett (fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs. Gowlett, Djuan). Rev. H. Garrett officiated, and Mr J. White presided at the organ". Whilst the register was being signed Mrs. McNairn rendered a vocal solo. The church had been decorated by friends, under the supervision of Mr. J. White. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a frock of white voile, finished with pin tucks and guipure.
  Her tulle veil was finished with orange blossom. She carried a sheaf of lilies with white streamer. Miss Beryl Gowlett,  who attended her sister as bridesmaid, wore a frock of shell-pink Marocain and a pink tulle cap. Her bouquet was of pale pink carnations and white streamers. Mr. Percy McLean carried out the duties of best man. After the ceremony the guests were entertained by the bride groom's parents at their residence, Linville. Subsequently Mr. and Mrs. Deeth left for Coolangatta and Tweed Heads. The bride wore a trailing costume of nigger brown gabardine with fur trimmings and a felt hat to harmonise"
   
  Olive had been a teacher at Perseverance School. After their marriage the couple lived at their dairy farm "Wyalla" at Hampton.

Ralph Littleton Gowlett

An inquest was held into his death as reported by The Brisbane Courier on 25 November 1912 - An inquiry was held today into the circumstances of the death of Ralph Littleton Gowlett, of Highfields road, who was, found dead with a bullet wound in his head on November 6 in a dairy at his fathers residence. Evidence was given by Thomas Gowlett (father of the deceased), Mrs. Gowlett (mother), and Constable Scanlon who produced a certifificate from Dr Freshney showing that the immediate cause of death was a bullet wound in the brain with hemorrhage supervening. His evidence indicated that the wound was inflicted by a Winchester pea rifle accidentally exploded. Sergeant MCCarthy conducted the examination of
  witnesses.
  
  

Reuben Gowlett

• Reuben Gowlett's birth was registered in the Saffron Walden, Essex Registration District in the June 1861 Quarter.
• He was the son of William Gowlett and Sarah Ann Unwin.
• Reuben Gowlett immigrated in 1862 with William Gowlett and Sarah Ann Unwin. William 24, and Sarah Ann 20, travelled on the Wansfell with their two children George H aged 2 and Reuben, an infant. George died on the journey. Sarah's brothers William and Charles and Charles' family made the journey with them.
  
• At the age of 24 years, Reuben Gowlett married Catherine Sheridan, daughter of Frank Sheriden and Ellen Plant, in 1886 in Queensland.
• Conditional approval for Reuben Gowlett and Reuben Gowlett's selection of landwas given on 24 November 1888. He selected 40 acres of land at Beauaraba (near Ravensbourne). "For the agricultural township farms adjoining the village of Ravensbourne there was great competition, many of the portions being applied for from four to ten times over. The ballot had to be resorted to in no less than 50 cases; this, with the refunding of the amounts paid by the unsuccessful applicants, necessarily occupied  a deal of time, and it was not till half-past 6 O'clock that the business was concluded, and the court closed. By 7 o'clock the whole of the refundments had been paid over to 115 applicants. The 76 portions adjoining the village of Ravensbourne, granted at the land court, were  apportioned among 62 selectors, so there is every probability of the village settlement of Ravensbourne proving a success. The total area granted at the court was 5025 acres among 68 applicants."

Son Robert was a labourer at Cooyar. By 1925 to family seems to have moved to Cooyar where Thomas was a labourer, George a tobacconist and James a teamster.

Catherine (Jean) Gracey

• Catherine (Jean) Gracey was born on 29 January 1912 in Dalby, Queensland.
• She was the daughter of Albert James Gracey and Eva May Mann.
• On 9 August 1928 Jean was knocked down by a motor cycle in Bowen Bridge Road. The Brisbane Courier reported:- "Jean Gracey (adult), of Nutgrove Cooyar, was knocked down on Bowen Bridge road last evening by a motor cycle, which fractured her left leg and inflicted lacerations and contusions on her head with the possibility of a fractured skull. The Ambulance Brigade took, her to the General Hospital, where her condition at a late hour was not considered to be serious."
  
• On 26 April 1936 Catherine (Jean) Gracey lived in Ipswich. Her visit to her parents was reported in The Courier Mail "Miss Gracey has returned to Ipswich after spending a holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Gracey at Nutgrove."
  
• She began military service on 28 January 1942 in Brisbane. Jean was living at Nutgrove at the time she enlisted and gave her father Albert as her next of kin. She was discharged with the rank of Lieutenant from the RAANS on 2 Jun 1950.
  
• On 17 November 1942 The Queensland Counrty Life reported" Sister J. Gracey, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gracey, of Nutgrove, Toowoomba, is now serving in a military hospital in Australia, but is due shortly for leave, which she intends spending with her parents."

• In February 1926 Margaret was applied for and was granted a provisional license for a second hotel in Cooyar as reported in The Brisbane Courier :- "New Hotel at Cooyar -The hearing of the application by Margaret Frances Gracey for the granting of a new license and the erection of a second hotel at Cooyar, to which objection had been lodged by the owner and licensee of the present hotel, Messrs Lourigan and Page was concluded in the Licensing Court, Toowoomba, before Mr F.C.M. Barne, P. M. yesterday. After the conclusion of addresses by counsel, the P.M. granted a provisional certificate, conditional on the premises being erected in accordance with the plans and specifications produced in court, with the necessary alterations shown thereon, the building to be completed within seven months, failing which the provisional certificate would be cancelled"
  An attempt was made in May 1929 to burn down the hotel. Luckily Margaret was able to douse the fire - " CHARGE OF ARSON. Gordon McRoberts was charged with having, on March 16, 1929, at Cooyar, wilfully and unlawfully set fire to the Royal Mail Hotel. Mr. T. Lehane (instructed by Mr. E. W. Cleary) appeared for the defendant, who pleaded not guilty.
  In relating the facts of the case, Mr. O'Driscoll said that the licensee of the hotel was Mrs. Gracey. Defendant commenced boarding at the hotel In March last, and was known to Mrs. Gracey for about a year. There was a lobby just inside the main entrance to the hotel in which was a pianola. There was also a stairway to the upper story from the lobby, and a stairway at the back of the hotel. Near room 7, in which tile fire occurred, there was a tank stand. Defendant occupied room No. 11 on the day of the fire. He was in bed most of the day, but got up for tea. He went over to another hotel, and had a conversation with some people and returned about 8 p.m. At the time the postmaster at Cooyar was playing the pianola, and was with his wife entertaining some friends. Defendant remained in the stairway listening to the music, and later went to his room. To get there he would have to pass room 7. The room contained the usual furniture. The post-master and friends left the hotel at 9 p.m. Mrs. Gracey then gave a man a drink at the back door, and inside immediately after her attention was attracted to a flickering light. She rushed to room 7, in which the light appeared to be, and knocked. Receiving no reply, she opened the door and found the room in flames. There was a strong smell of kerosene. She rushed out on to the balcony to get some water. Defendant was then in bed, apparently awake. She took a jug or water from his room. The fire was extinguished before much damage was done. In the drawer of the duchess in room 7 there was a bottle partly filled with kerosene. Defendant was questioned, but denied that he had any inflammable material in his possession. A bottle of petrol also was found behind the door. There were no corks in the bottles, and none were found In room 7. On being questioned, defendant denied any knowledge of the fire. The next morning Constable Yesberg went to the defendant's room, where the latter admitted that the portmanteau found in his room was his property. In it were two bottles of petrol. The bottles found in room 7 were sent to the C.I.B., Brisbane, where fingerprints on them were found to be in agreement with those of the defendant.
  After, evidence had been given by Constable Yesberg the court adjourned until this morning. His Honour intimated to the jury that they would not be looked up for the night.

• In February 1869 He was working as a shearer at Felton Station when he gave a 5s. subscription to the Toowoomba Hospital Fund.
  
• At the age of 25 years, John Gracey married Ellen Hurley, daughter of Daniel Hurley and Ellen Healy, on 30 January 1870 in Queensland. Sometime in the 1870's John and Ellen took up land at Nutgrove near Cooyar.
  
• In July 1873 John's application to select 200a. 2p. Parish of Cooyar was accepted.
• John Gracey: William Baartz was in the employ of Hon. J F McDougall. On 15 August his wife Maria visited the neighbouring Gracey selection with their children Frederick aged 6, and Elizabeth 3. While they were there Elizabeth disappeared and was though to have been taken by members of tribes of aboriginies from the Dalby and Nanango areas who were moving towards Leyburn.
  
• In June 1876 John was charged in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court with stealing a mare and horse belonging toJohn Carlyle of Middle Ridge but was acquitted. He was working as a stockman on Rosalie Plains at the time of the alledged theft.
  
• In 1877 John and Ellen possibly ran a boarding house five miles on the Nanango side of Cooyar Station. The boarding house in mentioned in an article regarding the death of a man from Nanango.
  
• On 21 December 1898 John was declared insolvant.
  
• John Gracey died on 11 April 1922 in Queensland.

John James Gracey

• John James Gracey was born on 18 April 1912 in Queensland.
• He was the son of Charles Crum Gracey and Margaret Frances Cronin.

• He was the son of Albert James Gracey and Eva May Mann.
• John James Gracey enlisted in the 9th Battalion Volunteer Defence Corps on 20 May 1942 in Cooyar. He was living at Nutgrove at the time and gave his next of kin as his father Albert. He was discharged on 21 Oct 1945.
  
• At the age of 27 years, John James Gracey married Gladys Millicent Hurley, daughter of Edwin Milton Hurley and Annie Theresa Doyle, in 1948.

Kathleen Mary Gracey

• Kathleen Mary Gracey was born on 2 February 1889 in Queensland.
• She was the daughter of John Gracey and Ellen Hurley.
• On 6 August 1933,Kathleen Mary Gracey's mother, Ellen Hurley died in Nutgrove, Queensland, at age 81. Her obituary appeard in The Brisbane Courier: -" The death took place on August 6 at her home, at Nutgrove, of Mrs. Ellen Gracey, relict of the late Mr. John Gracey. The late Mrs. Gracey, who was 77 years of age, was one of the early pioneers, and took up land with her late husband at Nutgrove In the early seventies. She is survived by four daughters. Mesdames J. Hale (Kaimkillenbun), J. Pincott (Tarong). M. Smoothy (Wengenville), and Kathleen (Cooyar), and three sons, Messrs. Charles Gracey (Cooyar), A. J. Gracey (Nutgrove), and Robert Gracey (Nutgrove)."
• Kathleen Mary Gracey died on 8 December 1981 in Queensland at age 92.
• Kathleen was buried on 11 December 1981 in Pinaroo Cemetery.
