    Another Downs pioneer Mr Edmund Wilcox, who had resided in Toowoomba for about 60 years, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 83 years. The late Mr Wilcox who was born in Monmouthshire, England came to Australia with his parents when quite young. He received his early business training with the firm of Messrs Cribb and Foote (Ipswich), and later with the firm of Messrs Holberton Bros, of Toowoomba. Severing his connection with the latter firm he engaged in business on his own account and with his brother, the late Mr Robert Wilcox, founded the firm of Messrs Wilcox Bros, who carried on business of merchants at Ruthven Street Toowoomba, for a number of years. He was keenly interested in farming pursuits and was recognised as an authority on real estate values on the Downs. For very many years he was an ardent worked in the Nell Street Methodist Church. He was a trustee for a long period, and was treasurer of the trust until declining years compelled him to retire. He married Miss Fanny Elizabeth Coombe of Campbelltown Tasmania in 1884, and the surviving issue of the marriage are Dr S E Wilcox (dentist Toowoomba), Messrs Cliff and Gordon Wilcox (graziers Hughenden district), Mrs A E Lavers (Toowoomba), Miss Daisy Wilcox and Mrs W Stark (Brisbane). There are also eight grandchildren. The late Mr Wilcox was predeceased by his wife about a year ago."
