    A pretty wedding was celebrated at St. George's Church, Crow's Nest, on June 9, when Mr. A. Macdonald Brosnan (eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. (Ted.) Brosnan, Lynwood farm, Plainly) was married to Miss Florance Mary Sondergeld (eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Sondergeld, of Fernvale, Crow's Nest. The Rev. W. H. Elvery officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a beautiful gown of ivory white Oriental satin, the bodice made with a round yoke of fine Brussels net richly embroidered with crystal and opal beads, and draped with satin and silk lace, the sleeves were full length, and were trimmed with beads and the lame lace, the skirt was slightly draped, showing a panel of rich dieep lace out lined with beads. A Court train heavily kilted fell from the shoulders, and showed a deep frill of lace underneath. She also wore an embroidered, tulle veil surmounted by a coronet of orange blossoms, and carried a shower bouquet of narcissi, camellias, stocks, and maiden hair fern, with white ribbon streamers (a gift from the bridegroom). Her beautiful gold wristlet watch was a gift from the bridegroom's father. Miss Evelyn Sondergeld (sister of the bride) acted as bridesmaid. M. Scurrah (Ipswich) acted as best man. After the ceremony the bridal party drove to the residence of the bride's parents, where a large party of relatives and friends were entertained at a wed ding tea. Mr. and Mrs A Bros nan left by the evening's train for Toowooinba en route to Brisbane and the Tweed for the honeymoon."

    The following year Alice Brown, Joseph Cronk, John Brown, Edward Brown, Alice Cronk, Minnie Humberdross, Emma Humberdross and John Kynoch were enrolled.

Brown (Highfields) and two daughters Mrs Chas Brewer (Pinelands) and Mrs James Gibbs (Crows Nest) one daughter, Mrs Margaret Hess died a few years ago. The late Mrs Brown and Mr Brown have 47 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The funeral took place at the Crows Nest Cemetery on Monday. The flag at the Soldiers Memorial was flown at half mast as a mark of respect."

Several years after their marriage Annie and Thomas moved north to a farm at between Emu Creek and Thornville. The older children helped to work the farm. The posts of the old cow bails are still standing and can be seen from the Emu Creek-Cooyar roadway.

  • Edward (Ned) Brown was born on 27 October 1844 in Maitland, New South Wales. He was the son of Robert Brown, a convict and Alice Cooper, a free immigrant.
  • At the age of 25 years, 4 months and 13 days, Edward (Ned) Brown married Margaret Boden on 12 March 1870 in Toowoomba, Queensland. At the time of Ellen's birth Margaret gave her date of marriage as 12 March 1869, at Toowoomba.
  • In 1876 The family was living at Cock's timber camp when Edward completed a census to enrol the children in the Crows Nest Provisional School.
  • Edward (Ned) Brown enrolled his children Edward Brown and Alice Anne (Cissy) Brown in school at Crow's Nest State School in 1877.
  • In March 1877, Edward (Ned) Brown enrolled his daugher an unknown person and John Robert William (Jack) Brown in the Crow's Nest Provisional School. His brother Edward 2, and John 6 were listed as future students for the proposed school but, according to the book, 125th Anniversary of Crow's Nest State School, only Edward started at the new school. This may be an error and should have been John. The teacher was William Jenkinson who was untrained and had to cope with an under-equipped school. There were no blackboards, slates, books etc. He left a few months later and was replaced by David Moylan.
  • In 1881 Edward and Margaret enrolled their three eldest children John, Alice and Edward in Perseverance School.
  • On 20 January 1881,Edward (Ned) Brown's daughter, Ellen Caroline Brown was born in Fernelawn, Perseverance, Queensland.

  • In November 1934 He celebrated his 90th birthday with family - "Mr. Edward Brown, of Crow's Nest, recently celebrated the 90th anniversary of his birthday. Mr. Brown, who is hale and hearty, was born at Maitland, and in his younger days was engaged in the carrylng business. His first long trip
    was to the Barwon River, a distance of about 500 miles. In 1864 he came to Queensland, where he continued in the carrying business. He spent much time in the Warrego district, Cooper's Creek, and the Barcoo River. While working on the Barcoo he took a load of wool to Rockhampton, the journey occupying about seven weeks. Mr. Brown has lived in the Crow's Nest district almost continuously for 66 years. He carted the timber for the first house built in Crow's Nest. Mrs. Brown died about five years ago" and the local Crow's Nest Paper.
  • Edward (Ned) Brown died on 26 August 1938 in Hillcrest, Crow's Nest, Queensland, at age 93.

    A service for him had been held at Hillcrest before the burial. He was said to have requested that no concrete be used to cover his grave - or he would return to haunt the person responsible!
  • On 1 September 1938 Edward (Ned) Brown's obituary appeared in the Courier Mail. It read:- "The death is announced of Mr. Edward Brown, aged 94. one of the pioneers of the Crow's Nest district. He was born at West Maitland, arrived in Queensland in 1864, and came to Crow's Nest 70 years ago. With the exception of a brief period at the Dawson River, he had resided In the district since then. His wife, predeceased him eight years ago. He is survived by five sons — Messrs. T. (Cooyar), E. (Highfields), R. and J. (Too woomba), and H. Brown (Crow's Nest) — two daughters--Mesdames J. Gibbs and C. Brewer (Crow's Nest)— 37 Grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren."

She came to Queensland over 60 years ago and was married to Mr Edward Brown in Toowoomba shortly afterwards. She had lived in and around Crows Nest ever since. They were to have celebrated their diamond wedding this year. Her kindly and gentle nature endeared her to the hearts of all, and the older residents of the district speak in glowing terms of the many thoughtful acts of Mrs. Brown, in the old pioneering days. She leaves to mourn their loss a husband and five sons, Messrs. J.R.W. Brown (West Australia) Thomas (Brisbane) H. Brown (Wondai), S Brown (Kilburnie) E. Brown (Highfields) and two daughters Mrs Chas Brewer (Pinelands) and Mrs James Gibbs (Crows Nest) one daughter, Mrs Margaret Hess died a few years ago. The late Mrs Brown and Mr Brown have 47 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The funeral took place at the Crows Nest Cemetery on Monday. The flag at the Soldiers Memorial was flown at half mast as a mark of respect."
