John (Jack) McRae

- John Alexander McRae was born on 3 July 1860 in Bucks Inn, Stair Hill, Goulbourn, New South Wales. He was the son of John (possibly died 1884) and Clementina Mary McDonnell(died 1900) (married 1852 Goulburn). In 1890 Clementina's brand was recorded in the NSW Government Gazette. She lived at Clear Hill, Middle Arm, Taralga and was living there in 1913 with Donald Aeneas McRae, Duncan McRae, and Hector James McRae - all graziers.
- At the age of 41 years and 28 days, John Alexander McRae married Ellen Philomina Barry on 31 July 1901 in Taralga, New South Wales. They lived in the Goulburn district before moving to Casino and finally to Queensland where their youngest child was born in 1907. John purchased at Emu Creek.
- On 18 February 1911 the Department of Education compiled a list of children who were currently attending the Moss View School, but were residing near the proposed Jubilee Vale school. John and Ellen's children Reginald 7, Kathleen 6 and Gordon 5 were on that list. They lived on Portion 4 Emu Creek which was about 2 1/2 miles from the proposed new school as compared to 4 miles from the Mossview School which because of the distance they had not been attending.
- In 1914 he was elected Chairman of the Crow's Nest Shire Council. He remained a Councillor until 1933.
