Hohnke, who was about 83 years of age, lived alone on the property. Death is believed to have been due to natural causes."

  • John Horrocks died on 28 November 1888 in Eton Vale, Queensland. The Queenslander reported on 8 December - " TOOWOOMBA, December 3. The man found dead in Eton Vale paddock proved to be Mr. John Horrocks, one of the oldest and most respected inhabitants of Drayton. He was returning to his home when he and his horse were struck dead by lightning."
  • He was buried on 2 December 1888 in Drayton & Toowoomba Cemetery.
