For a time he made his home at Gowrie, but afterwards moved to Crow's Nest, where he had resided for over 40 years. He reared a family of six sons and two daughters, whilst two daughters died in infancy. The sons are Messrs. Patrick Hayden, James Hayden, Thomas Hayden (Tingoora), Michael Hayden (Brisbane), and Timothy Hayden (Roma), and the daughters are Mrs. Wm. Gleeson and Mrs. F. Littleton (both of Crow's Nest). .

Madden (sic), Emu Creek, for the farewell tendered to Mr. and Mrs. Percy Hayden. Mr. Hayden, who for seven years had been head teacher of the Jubilee Vale State School, was notified recently of his transfer to Acland. Mr. Hayden was presented with an illustrated address, and later both he and Mrs. Hayden wore the recipients of an eight-day clock and a wallet of notes on behalf of the residents."

Hayden, in the employ of Filshie, Broadfoot and Co., met with a painful accident yesterday at Crow's Nest. When rolling some logs he had the misfortune to get his foot jammed between two of the logs, with the result that his ankle was badly sprained. He was brought to Toowoomba and rendered first aid by the Ambulance and conveyed to the hospital."
