• She attended school in North Bundaberg School on 26 February 1884 Her age was given as 12 years and 4 months and her father was listed as a baker.
  
• Her daughter was born 26 September 1889 in Abington, Childers. The child was still born about 7pm. As was usual at that time an inquest was held into the death. It was conducted by W.N. Keyes JP on 27 Aug/5 Sep 1889 Ref Jus/N169378/1889.
  Annie stated that the father was Charles Barbeler, a baker from Maryborough. Annie had gone to Maryborough on 9 November 1888 to work for Charles Barbeler and returned to Abington on 9 January 1889. She stated at the Inquest into the child's death that Charles Barbeler had sex with her on Christmas night 1888 and five times after that. She also stated that her adopted father, James Kingston also had sex with her on several occasions but only once after she came home from Maryborough, that being about two months after her return.
  
• Annie Downes died on 15 April 1892 in Maryborough Hospital, Maryborough, at age 20. Annie was living with Mrs Larson at Horton when her clothes caught fire while attending domestic duties. She sustained severe burns to her lower body on Thursday 14 April 1892. She was taken to hospital at Maryborough where she died the next day. Her death details list no mother or fathers' names. Her death is registered as DOUEN perhaps a misspelling of DOWNES by the Registry.

The family believe Charles suffered from turbuclosis and that was the reason the family came to Australia, in the hope that his health would improve. After his death, according to family hearsay, he was buried "under a tree in East Perth" outside the East Perth cemetery, which lead to speculation that his death may have been suicide. To date no official record of his death has been found. However, a Death Notice appeared in the Western Australia newspaper. It read-
