• Ella Maud Dothie was born on 30 April 1862 in St Kilda, Melbourne, Victoria.

He had "for the last twenty years, suffered from an insidious disease, which has baffled the skill of many doctors .... and once before, about ten years ago had been at deaths door .... about six weeks ago he was compelled to take to his bed......he endured great pain which was borne with great fortitude".
  Rev John Adamson described David - "as a man, his physical frame was not robust, and this was the result of years of suffering; but intellectually he was strong, vigorous, capable, while morally and spiritually his life was of a high type indeed. He was modest and retiring to the end, and deeply appreciated his home and the company of his wife and child, whom he dearly loved."
