He had twice been a member of the Crow's Nest Shire Council, and was a member and a keen worker on the committee of the show society. The late Mr. Morice was president of the race club. He is survived by a widow and grown-up family. The funeral, which took place at Crow's Nest yesterday, was largely attended."
• The Methodist Church in Crow's Nest erected memorial plaques to early Crow's Nest Pioneers on the Church fence. George's name was amongst them.

With them were other members of the Raatz family:- Ferdinand Raatz 30, Wilhelmine 26, and her husband Charles Raatz 28. Their infant son Herman died on the journey. Also aboard the ship were Joseph and Emilie Polzin and their children. An August Raatz immigrated to Queensland on the Waroonga on 13 August 1888. He was 25.
