According to newspaper reports the family moved to the Ravensbourne district not long after their arrival.

  • In August 1913 The Telegraph reported:- " The Ravensbourne correspondent of the Toowoomba Chronicle writes : A painful accident happened to Mrs W. Zropf, mother of Mr. F. Mrs. Zropf, who has passed her 92nd birthday, is partly blind, but otherwise enjoyed good health, had not the sad misfortune befallen her of falling down the steps of the house, causing her to break her thigh. Dr. Anderson, of Crow's Nest, attended her. Mrs. W. Zropf is well known in the Highfields district, where she resided for a number of years. She arrived at Highfields 35 years ago."

Ann Handy

F, b. 15 February 1871, d. 14 April 1939

  • Ann Handy and John James Doyle appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1903 living at Djuan. John was a farmer. An Annie Margaret Doyle was also living at Djuan. She was a school teacher.
  • In 1903 John obtained his Deed of Grant for their property which, several years later, he signed over to Annie and moved to Brisbane where he established, and was secretary for the United Coal Workers and Lightermans Union for over 10 years. Annie and the children, who attended Coalbank School continued to run the Dairy/mixed farm.
  • Ann Handy and John James Doyle appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1913 living at Coalbank. John was a farmer.
  • On 27 January 1927,her husband, John James Doyle died in Coalbank, Queensland.
  • Ann Handy appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1930 living at Coalbank. Annie carried out home duties. Her two sons Bernard Joseph and Lawrence were labourers.
  • She appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1936 living at Coalbank. Annie carried out home duties as did her daughter Mary Francis. Son Stephen was a labourer.
  • The Coalbank Telephone Exchange was installed in the Handy home. Being the only telephone available in the district, the family would deliver phone messages to their neighbours on horseback. Farmers coming to the Doyle home to make calls and collect the mail brought from Wutul by Mary, would often treat it as a social visit that sometimes lasted several hours. Around 1950 some of the farmers also had the service connected but the Doyle family continued to manage the exchange until 1975.
  • Ann Handy died on 14 April 1939 in Queensland at age 68. After her death the family farm continued to be run by her sons Steve and Lawrence who also continued with the mail run from Wutul. Cricket matches were often held on the farm which was taken over by Mary and her husband Nigel Aldridge in 1948.
  • Ann was buried in Emu Creek Cemetery.
