She stated that he had enlisted in WWI under the name George Robert, but had found at the time he enlised in the second world war that his name was George Albert.
  • He was the son of Joseph Quirey and Margaret Adams.
  • George Robert Albert Quirey enlisted in the AIF on 14 January 1918 in Toowoomba. He stated he was born on 16 nov 1896 and was a carter, born Clifton. He gave his next of kin as his father Joseph, of Glenaven, Crow's Nest. This was later changed to his wife Ruby who he married a few weeks before leaving for England. He stated he suffered from Catarrh. He was 5ft 3 1/2 inches tall, 120 lbs with grey eyes and brown hair, of presbyterian faith.
    He left for England on 18 May 1918 and served in France in 1919 and returned to Australia on 5 Sep 1919.
  • At the age of 18 years, 5 months and 14 days, George Robert Albert Quirey married Ruby Eliza Florence Fitch, daughter of William John Fitch and Esther Clara Evans, on 30 April 1918 in Queensland. George was a fruiter. The couple lived in Musgrave Road Red Hill when they were first married.
