The party separated at the railway gates, and a moment later Messrs. Schultz and Naumann heard a noise which sounded like a horse falling. On investigation they found Mr. Hannemann lying on the ground beside a small culvert. The Toowoomba Ambulance Brigade was summoned, but on arrival it was found that Mr. Hannemann was dead. He is survived by his widow and six children. The funeral was the largest seen in the district, and Pastor Prenzler conducted the service. - August was buried on 25 August 1930 in Goombungee Cemetery.

The Brisbane Courier reported on 12 March 1924"His Honour dealt with a matter in which a writ had been issued by Annie Brennan, one of the beneficiaries under the will of her father, the late Denis Hanrahan, claiming that there should be a sale of the land affected by the will and a distribution of the proceeds among the beneficiaries, who were : Bridget'O'Sullivan, Margaret Mary Wilkes, Annie Brennan, Lillian Hanrahan, Kathleen Durkin, and Mary Phyllis Gleeson, a minor.
Mr. J. S. Hutchéon (instructed by Messrs. Tully and Wilson, town agents for Hennessy and Hennessy, Toowoomba) appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. George S. Webb appeared for the defendant, Mary Phyllis, Gleeson, a minor.
The court heard a motion for judgement against the defendants, Bridget O'Sullivan and the other beneficiaries, apart from the plaintiff, no defence having been entered. The motion asked : That judgment be entered for the plaintiff; (2) that the land be sold to Thomas Brennan, of Crow's Nest, for £1600, to be paid in cash (3) that John Hanrahan be ap- pointed trustee to receive such money and be appointed to convey the land to Thomas Brennan, pay costs of the present action, and pay one-sixth of the net residue to each of the beneficiaries, ex- cept the infant,Mary Phyllis Gleeson whose one-sixth should be held in trust until she attained the age of 21,
His Honour said he would make the required order, but suggested the appointment of a second trustee.
Subsequently Mr.Hutcheon stated that the parties had arranged for W. A. Gleeson to be appointed as co-trustee with Hanrahan with respect to the share of the estate, which would come to Mary Phyllis Gleeson until she attained the age of 21 years.
His Honour therefoer made the order in the terms of the notice of motion, save and except the provision above detailed for the appointment of a co-trustee for Mary Phyllis Gleeson."

- Denis Hanrahan died from injuries received in a fall during a horse race on 17 May 1931 in Hampton, Queensland. The Brisbane Courier reported:- " HAMPTON RACE MEETING.
TOOWOOMBA, May 17.
An accident, which proved fatal, occurred during tho running of the Novelty Pony Race at Hampton on Saturday afternoon. Denis Hanrahan (aged 22 years), who worked with his father at Taylor, on tho Crow's Nest line, was riding in the event, when his mount fell, and It is surmised that one of the horses following tramped on his face. He was placed In a car, and a start was made for Toowoomba. The Ambulance Brilgade was met on the road, and took charge of the Injured man. He was taken to a doctor's surgery, where he was found to be suf ferlng from a fracture of the base of the skull, fractured nose, and extensive in- juries to the face. He later was taken to hospital, where he died at 12.45 a.m.-to-day." - Denis was buried on 18 May 1931 in Cabarlah Cemetery. RC1-00C-0054.
- An enquirely was held into his death in July 1931. The Brisbane Courier reported:- " JOCKEY'S DEATH. Further evidence was heard in the Coroner's Court yesterday, in connection with the death of Denis Hanrahan, farm hand, who died from injuries received, as a result of his horse falling while he was riding in a race at the Hampton races on May 16. Dr. Bruce Smith stated that deceased told him that his Injuries were caused by a horse treading on him while he was lying on the ground, and that the fall was accidental, and none of tho riders was to blame. The inquiry was closed."
