He was reported missing in France on 28 Jul 1916, and declared killed in action on 19 Jul 1916 at a court enquiry on 2 Sep 1917.
  • Richard Parton was killed in action on 19 September 1916 in France at age 33. His memorial stands at V.C. CORNER AUSTRALIAN CEMETERY AND MEMORIAL, FROMELLES.

Thomas Parton

  • Thomas Parton was born on 11 February 1827 in Ranton, Staffordshire. He was the son of Hannah Parton and Thomas PARTON.
  • At the age of 26 years, 1 month and 18 days, Thomas Parton married Margaret Moore on 29 March 1853 in Stafford, Staffordshire, England.
  • Thomas Parton and Margaret Moore immigrated to Moreton Bay on 23 August 1882. The family travelled on the Manora. Thomas and Margaret were both 54 years old. With them were their children William aged 14, Annie 18 and Alice aged 7. Thomas and Margaret's sons Thomas and George had come to Moreton Bay on the Scottish Admiralia in 1878.
  • In 1885 Thomas lost a leg in an accident while working with Mr Cox (Cocks) at Pinelands.
  • On 25 November 1894 Thomas was brutally assulted by his neighbour John Brunnock.
  • Thomas Parton died on 15 July 1895 in Crow's Nest, Queensland, at age 68.
  • Thomas was buried in Crow's Nest Cemetery. UNIT-00N-0036.

  • At the age of 32 years and 24 days, Thomas Parton married Gladys May Arndt, daughter of August Frederick William Arndt and Augusta Agnes Scheske, on 16 December 1936. Thomas took eventually took over his parents farm at Emu Creek.
  • Thomas Parton was accidentally killed on 21 January 1942 in Queensland at age 37. After his death the property was worked by share farmers until 1951. Gladys then returned to the farm having remarried in 1946.
    The farm is still in the family and consists of 1100 acres fronting the New England Highway and 1200 acres on Oaky Creek, eleven miles away.
  • Thomas was buried in Emu Creek Cemetery.

  • The following article appeared in the the Darling Downs Gazette on 11 August 1888. published a Quarterly Electoral list that included William Gregory Bidgood, William Parton, Henry Bruce and Julius Rohde. All were listed as residents of Emu Creek.
  • At the age of 28 years, 6 months and 1 day, William Parton married Ethel Matilda Perkins, daughter of Thomas Perkins and Annie Maria Brown, on 30 December 1896 in Mountain View, Emu Creek, Crow's Nest, Queensland. The marriage was solomised according to the rights of the Primative Methodist Church by Rev James Moorhouse. William was a carrier. Witnesses to the Marriage were George Parton and Ada Hudson.

Charles was the 20 year old son of Sampson, a labourer. Witnesses to the marriage were Joseph May and Jane Pascoe.
  • Charles Pascoe and Mary May immigrated to Sydney, New South Wales, on 22 June 1877. Charles 31 and Mary 30 travelled on the Commonwealth with their children "- Joseph 10, Jane 9, John M 5, Phillipa 3 and infant Mark.
  • At the age of 56 years, Charles Pascoe married Mary Schofield in 1903 in Sydney, New South Wales. Mary married her brother-in-law Mark ( who was a widower) Mary May had been Marks housekeeper after her husband Charles had desserted Mary and the children. Both Mary and Charles committed bigimany as Charles married Mary Schofield in 1903.
