  • The following article appeared in the his obituary appeared inThe Courier Mail:- It read"CROW'S NEST.— The death is announced of Mr. Herman Theodor Mewing, aged 69, who had been a general storekeeper in Crow's Nest for 31 years, having established the business with his brother (the late Mr. T. C. Mewing in 1911. He was born in the Logan district, went to Mackay after his marriage to Miss E. Tweedale, and engaged in cane farming for six years before coming to Crow's Nest. When he retired a few years ago he and Mrs. Mewing made a tour through Europe and the British Isles with the Empire Farmers' Group, and after returning to Crow's Nest they went to Toowoomba to live. Mr. Mewing is survived by his wife, two sons — Messrs. P. and R. Mewing (Crow's Nest) — and two daughters Mesdames R. R. Armltage (Lismore) and I. B. Dunsdon (Dalby)
    on 20 March 1942.

He was thrown off when the motor cycle passed over a rut, and received a large lacerated and contused wound on the left cheek, abrasions on the forehead, both bands, and left knee. Middleton, who also suffered from shock, was brought into the Toowoomba Hospital for treatment.
