  • At the age of 18 years, 5 months and 1 day, Ellen Hurley married John Gracey, son of Charles Crumwell Gracey and Isabella Cartin, on 30 January 1870 in Queensland. Sometime in the 1870's John and Ellen took up land at Nutgrove near Cooyar.
  • Ellen Hurley: William Baartz was in the employ of Hon. J F McDougall. On 15 August his wife Maria visited the neighbouring Gracey selection with their children Frederick aged 6, and Elizabeth 3. While they were there Elizabeth disappeared and was though to have been taken by members of tribes of aboriginies from the Dalby and Nanango areas who were moving towards Leyburn.
  • In 1877 John and Ellen possibly ran a boarding house five miles on the Nanango side of Cooyar Station. The boarding house in mentioned in an article regarding the death of a man from Nanango.
  • On 21 December 1898 John was declared insolvant.
  • On 11 April 1922,her husband, John Gracey died in Queensland.
  • Ellen Hurley appeared on the Electoral Roll between 1925 and 1930 living at Pine Hills, Nutgrove. She carried out home duties and may have lived with one of her sons - Albert or Robert who both were carriers at Nutgrove at the time.
  • Ellen was buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
  • Ellen Hurley died on 6 August 1933 in Nutgrove, Queensland, at age 81. Her obituary appeard in The Brisbane Courier: -" The death took place on August 6 at her home, at Nutgrove, of Mrs. Ellen Gracey, relict of the late Mr. John Gracey. The late Mrs. Gracey, who was 77 years of age, was one of the early pioneers, and took up land with her late husband at Nutgrove In the early seventies. She is survived by four daughters. Mesdames J. Hale (Kaimkillenbun), J. Pincott (Tarong). M. Smoothy (Wengenville), and Kathleen (Cooyar), and three sons, Messrs. Charles Gracey (Cooyar), A. J. Gracey (Nutgrove), and Robert Gracey (Nutgrove)."
