The Brisbane Courier reported :-"The Congregational Church, Hume Street, Toowoomba, had been beautified with bowls of white flowers and fern on October 12, when the wedding was celebrated of Mr. Thomas Walter Wickham (youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Janice Wickham, Hume street, Toowoomba) and Miss Ethel Lilly Bretz (eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bretz, Pinelands Crow's Nest). The Rev. C. A. Caporn officiated. Mr. Bretz gave away his daughter, who, wore a richly-beaded mariette frock, finished with small sprays of orange blossoms. Her soft tuile veil was worn with a cap caught under a circlet of orange buds, and she carried a sheaf of arum lilies and asparagus plamosus. After the ceremony the wedding guests were entertained at the residence of the bridegroom's parents. Subsequently Mr. and Mrs. Wickham left for Brisbane and Coolangatta, where the honey- moon was spent. The bride's travelling frock of henna marocain was worn with a henna crinoline hat to match."

On 24 August 1915 The Brisbane Courier reported :- " When returning from church at Glenaven yesterday Mr and Mrs August Ludke, well-known residents of Glenaven met with a serious accident (our Crow's Nest correspondent wired yesterday) The horse bolted with the sulky, throwing both the occupants out. Mrs Ludke was brought into Crows Nest and attended Dr Cole, having been injured internally. Mr Ludke received a broken collar bone and was badly shaken. The sulky was smashed to pieces."
