  • Thomas Samuel Tidd and Elizabeth Eyles immigrated to Nelson, South Island, New Zealand, on 24 September 1841. Elizabeth 26, and Thomas 24, and their daughter Esther aged 6, left from London on the Mary Ann, captained by Thomas Bolton arriving at Nelson NZ on 5 February 1842. They were part of the second fleet of ships commissioned by The New Zealand Company to bring settlers to the area around Nelson on the South Island of New Zealand.
  • Thomas Samuel Tidd witnessed the marriage of John Holdaway and Amelia Eyles on 7 August 1842; They were married the same day as Amelia's sister Mary to David Norgate.The marriage was most likely from necessity as John had four young children to care for and Amelia had two. They went on to have another 11 children. The certificate shows that John was a labourer born Lasham, a widower. Amelia was from Madshad (Medsted), a widow. They were married by Charles Waring, sexton. John signed with his mark as did Amelia. Present were Thomas Samuel Tidd, Elizabeth Tidd and Mary Norgate.
  • Thomas Samuel Tidd's and Elizabeth Eyles's daughter Elizabeth was born 15 June 1852 in Nelson. Her father was a farmer at the time.
  • On 10 October 1865 Thomas landlord may have been in financial difficulties as he was forced to sell of part of his land. The Colonist advertised the sale - " SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21. Pursuant to instructions received from the Registrar of the Supreme Court, and by order of the Mortgagee, MR. D. MOORE will Sell by Auction, at his Warehouse, Trafalgar-street, on Saturday, 21st instant, at noon All that piece of LAND, situated in Suburban south, part of Section No. 76, with all the BUILDINGS thereon, at present in the occupation of Mr. Thomas Tidd, Brewer. For further particulars apply to the Auctioneer. Trafalgar-street, October 6."
  • On 24 November 1866 The brewery was sold by Auction as advertised in the Nelson Examiner - "THIS DAY. STOKE BREWERY. MR. D. MOORE will SELL by AUCTION, THIS DAY (SATURDAY), at Twelve o'olock That eligible and valuable PROPERTY, known as the STOKE BREWERY now in the occupation of Mr. Thomas Tidd, including all the buildings, fixtures, and improvements. For particulars, apply to the Auctioneer, or to W. M. Stakton, 2615 Trafalgar-street."
  • When their daughter's Elizabeth and Amelia were married, Thomas' occupation was given as a brewer.
  • Thomas Samuel Tidd died on 20 February 1877 in Turf Hotel, Stoke, New Zealand. He was a Hotel Keeper. His death was announced in the Nelson Evening Mail and read:- " Tidd.— At Stoke, Thomas Samuel Tidd, aged 56 years. " and in the Wanganui Chronicle - " DEATH.

Thomas Henry Tidd, heard in Palmerston yesterday, the petitioner (for whom Mr. Ongley appeared) sued for a dissolution of marriage on the ground of adultery. The petitioner in her evidence stilted that she had been married to the respondent at Feilding on August 22, 1899, and there had been eight children born of the union. Everything went well until about eight years ago, when the parties were living at Mangaweka. She had then reason to suspect undue intimacy between the respondent and a woman who was living in the house, but he denied the accusation. She (petitioner) had left the house to earn her own living as a waitress, and after that her husband had taken to drinking heavily. She bad reason to believe that he was living with another woman while she was earning her own living, and she put in a letter from him making certain admissions. Corroborative evidence having been given by two witnesses, his Honour granted a decree nisi, to be made absolutely in three months, with costs on the lowest scale against the respondent."
