  • Iris was a bridesmaid at the wedding of Roy Askin and Marjory Ellen Sattler on 10 May 1930 in Queensland; The Daily Standard reported [not very accurately] on the wedding. "On May 10, at the Neil-street Methodist Church, Geham, the wedding took place of Mr. R. Askin (second son of Mr. and Mrs. L. Askin, Crow's Nest) and Miss Marjorie Sattler (youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
    H. Sattler, Geham). Rev. J. Stirling (Crow's Nest) officiated.
    The bride, who was given away by her father, was gowned in corded brocaded taffeta, adorned with a shoulder posy of lily of the valley; her veil, which was worn with a wreath of orange blossoms, was lent by Mrs. R. L. Askin, and fell In soft folds below the uneven hemline of her gown. She carried a bouquet of sweet peas and jonquils, tied with white satin streamers.
    Miss Iris Adams, who was bridesmaid, wore a deep cream mariette frock, with a pointed hip yoke, and finished with a shoulder posy of yellow roses. She carried a bouquet of yellow chrysanthemums tied with satin streamers.
    Mr. Cyril Askin was best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Cafe Alexandria. Mrs. Sattler, who received the guests, wore a frock of brown brocaded morocain and a hat to harmonise. Mrs. L. Askin was frocked in navy blue crepe de Chino, worn with a hat to tone.
    On leaving for the honeymoon, which is being spent in Brisbane, Mrs. R. Askin wore a tweed tailored costume, with a velour hat to harmonise."
  • At the age of 28 years, Iris May Adams married Ronald Ralph Rickaby in November 1941 in St Stephen's Presbyterian Church, Toowoomba. The Courer-Mail reported " RICKABY— ADAMS. — St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church, Toowoomba, was the scene of the wedding of Miss Iris May Adams (eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Adams, Cabarlah) and Lieutenant Ronald Ralph Rickaby (elder son of Mr. B. Rickaby, Maleny, and of the late Mrs. Rickaby). The Rev. N. H. Joughin officiated. With her picture frock of white organza the bride wore a tulle veil caught with an orange blossom coronet. She carried lilies. Miss Edna Adams, bridesmaid, wore mist blue taffetas striped in pink. The topknot of her blue veil matched her pink and blue bouquet. Lieutenant A. Beech was best man. A reception was held at the Cafe Alexandra.

Isabella Adams

  • Isabella Adams was born circa 1857 in London Bow. She was the daughter of William Adams and Isabella Park, William was a well knownEngineer and locomotive designer of the middle 1800's.
  • Her marriage to Gilbert Henry Garrett, son of Thomas Poynder Garrett and Ann (Mary) Jefferis, was registered in the March 1883 Quarter Registration District.
  • On 10 March 1889,her husband, Gilbert Henry Garrett died in Newcastle at age 34. His obituary read :- GILBERT HENRY GARRETT (1) was born at Tamworth on the 4th of March, 1855, and was educated at the Clergy Orphan School, Canterbury. From youth his taste lay in the direction of engineering, and accordingly he was educated with a view of embracing that profession, becoming a pupil under Mr. W. Adams, of the Great Eastern Railway. Afterwards, when that gentleman was made Locomotive Superintendent of the London and South-Western Railway, Mr. Garrett was appointed his assistant. In this capacity he materially rendered great help in re-arranging the works connected with that company. A vacancy occurring a t Messrs. Sterne and Co.’s Works, Glasgow, he was made manager, and remained there for about three years. After the death of Mr. Douglass, of Messrs. Stephenson’s Works, Newcastle, he was appointed to direct the affairs of t h a t well-known establishment i n September 1885. Thi s office he filled wi th conspicuous ability up to the time of his premature death, which occurred on the 10th of March, 1889. Mr. Garrett was elected an Associate Member of the Institut ion
    on the 1st of March, 1881.

The bride who was given away by her brother-in-law, Mr. T. Adams, wore her travelling frock, which was composed of sand crepe Marocain, straight-lined, beautifully beaded frock, with which a close fitting navy blue hat was worn. Miss May Askin (sister of the bride) attended as bridesmaid, and wore a frock of lemon fugi silk, trimmed with pin tucks and stitchery. A small black, satin cloche was also worn. Mr. Albert Barnes was best man. The honeymoon is being spent in Brisbane and at the seaside"
    At the time of their marriage Daisy lived in Crow's Nest and worked in the library. After their marriage Les and Daisy moved to River Trees in New South Wales and eventually settled in Wilson's Downfall. He signed his portion of the Pierce Creek farm over to his sister Jessie in 1937.
  • The following article appeared in the The Courier-Mail on 3 October 1941. "Patrick Costello, 23, farm hand, and Joseph Adams, 55 farmer, both of Cabarlah, were knocked off their horses on the Cooby Creek road by a limb which fell from a burning tree as they were returning from fighting a bush fire. Costello received a fracture of the pelvis and Adams an incised wound over the right eye and abrasions on the left hand. The Toowoomba ambulance took Costello to the Toowoomba General Hospital and Adams to a private hospital.
