  My dear Sarah Jane must beg you to forgive me for not answering your last letter. It was nor neglect nor forgetfulness on my part, for you were not one day out of my mind since that time I remembered you and your husband and children three times a day at the throne of grace.
  But the reason I did not write was because James and Henry and Caroline was urging me to let them go to Australia and I did not know whether I might let them go or not and that what kept me from writing.
  ...I would know whether I would fit them out and let them go. I believe they will not go at this time the more it is easy getting to New South Wales at present they would get away for 2 pounds each but er have considered it is better to wait a while and go all together if the Lord spares life and health as I am tired letting them go in parts. Your Uncle James Moore has a son and a daughter Christopher going to New South Wales. They are to sail sometime this month. I don't know the day yet. They are to be with us tomorrow to take their dinner with us. I suppose for the last time. They are of mind to call with uncle John Johnston to see them if all bees well. It is their Uncle Christopher Moore that lives in the Colony Victoria that they are pushing. You say Robert John has got no housekeeper yet Margaret Moore would make a good housekeeper in this country but I don't know whether she might know much about it in Australia or not. But one thing I believe she is a good Christian and that hides a good many defects in temporal affairs.
  I am thankful to Joseph for the newspaper. It is a token of kindness. Dear Sarah our youngest one Leasha bees often asking us what sort of girl you were. She would like to see you. She says we have a letter from William Wilson a few days ago.........and him and family is well Eliza and him and family is well Also their friends over here. This year the potatoes is as bad as they were the first year they failed. I think if the people would meet with another season like this they would to start in any Colony they get to. I think it would be easier taking up land in Queensland than in New South Wales if it would be near as good but I suppose it is not as good as New South Wales.
  We are still in hopes of seeing you all yet if the Lord spares life and health. There will be 3 of William Moffits sons in the ship with the Moores and a daughter of widow James Brandons of ................in the ship with them.
  I must conclude by saying your mother, brothers, and sisters joins me in sending our love to you and Joseph and son and daughter and William and wife and Baby and Robert John in the kindest manner

• On 25 June 1883,Sarah Jane Crawford's son, Robert Staines was born in Teven, New South Wales. His father's occupation was given as sugar planter. A Mr Galloway was a witness to his birth.
  
• In February 1888 The Northern Star reported Mrs Staines donated 2 shillings and sixpence to the erection of the Alstonville RC church.
• According to Sarah's obituary, Sarah Jane Crawford and Joseph Staines moved to Kingaroy, Queensland, around 1912. They appear to have settled at "Bonnie Brae" with their son William and his family. Their daughter Sarah Elizabeth moved with them.

• On 7 November 1921,her husband, Joseph Staines died in "Bonne Brae", Crawford, Memerambi, Queensland, at age 70. Joseph's cause of death was Carcinoma Pancreatitis, Toxaemia & asthenia. After Joseph's death Sarah moved to Kingaroy.
  
• Sarah Jane Crawford appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1922 living at Crawford, Queensland. Her occupation is shown as home duties. Sometime after Samuel's death she went to live in Haly Street, Kingaroy. She may have lived at "Beaconsfield", 248 Haly Street (cnr of Burnett Street) until she went to live with her daughter Fran and son in law Wes Johnston who lived at "Burrum House) 221 Haly Street (cnr William) Kingaroy after Samuel's death.
  
• She left a will on 7 February 1928 in Kingaroy. Will of Sarah Jane Staines.
  This is the last Will and Testament of me SARAH JANE STAINES of Kingaroy in the State of Queensland, widow. I hereby revoke all former wills and testamentary dispositions heretofore made by me and I declare this to be my last Will and Testament. I appoint William John Staines of Kingaroy aforesaid grazier and Samuel Joseph Staines of Kingaroy aforementioned Grazier (herein after called my Trustees) Executors and Trustees of this my will and I give all my real and personal estate to my Trustees in Trust to convert the same into money by sale or otherwise and to divide the proceeds among my children William John Staines, Samuel Joseph Staines, Frances Margaret Johnson, Robert Staines and Sarah Elizabeth Woods equally as Tenants in common Provided always that if any child of mine die in my lifetime leaving a child or children who survive me and being male attain the age of twenty one years or being female attain that age or marry in every such case the last mentioned child or children shall take (and if more than one equally between them) the share which his her or their parent would have taken in the residuary trust funds if such parent had survived me and I also declare that my trustees may postpone the sale and conversion of my real and personal estate or any part thereof for so long as they shall think fit and the income from unconverted property shall from the time of my death be applied in the same manner as the income from the proceeds thereof would have been applicable if the same had been converted. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribe my hand to this my last will and Testament this seventh day of February one thousand nine hundred and twenty eight.

• On 22 September 1939Sarah Jane Crawford's obituary appeared in in the Nambour Chronicle and Coast Advertiser. It read:- Mrs Sarah Jane Staines, mother of Mr W. J. Staines of Woombye, formerly of Maroochydore, passed away peacefully at her home at Haly Street Kingaroy, shortly after mid-day on Sunday at the advanced age of 97 years.
  The deceased lady was the wife of Mr Joseph Staines, who pre-deceased her 16 years ago. She was born in County Fermanagh, in the north of Ireland, and was the last surviving member of a family of eleven. With her brother she came to Australia in early life and settled on the South Coast of New South Wales.
  After her marriage to Mr Joseph Staines, in Sydney, 66 years ago, the couple settled in the Richmond River district, and over a number of years took a prominent part in the pioneering of the virgin scrub in that area. Her name was an honoured on among the Richmond River pioneers.
  Twenty seven years ago, Mr and Mrs Staines moved with their family to Kingaroy and took up farming at Crawford. Except for a brief period in the Dawson Valley the family's association with the Kingaroy district was since unbroken.
  On the death of her husband, Mrs Staines acquired the home in Haly Street, Kingaroy, where she resided to her death.
  All her life she was a great worker for the Methodist Church, and maintained a keenly practical interest in the activities of the Kingaroy Circuit.
  In addition to her son, two daughters, Mesdames J W Johnston (Kingaroy) and D C Woods (Taringa), survive her. Two adult sons, Messers Samuel and Robert predeceased her. There are 21 grandchildren and 16 great grand children.
