His baby is called Keith. I bet you have never heard of that name before, one of Auntie Annies chosing so we have to like that name wether we do or not."

• She was born on 22 September 1897. and according to family hearsay, Minnie was given to Edith's mother Emily Jefferis and her sister Ann Jefferis to raise.
  
• She was the daughter of Sampson Henry Chambers and Edith Mary Jefferis.
• Edith Mary Chambers went to school circa 1908 in Woowoonga State School.

• According to her niece Ollie Johannssen, Minnie worked in Brisbane for a time. "She bought the piano for her parents and also a willow wear dinner set which must have cost her quite a lot even in those days. When she came back to Biggenden she worked at the hospital for a long time." Apparently Minnie was working at the hospital when she met Henry Miller who was working at John Douglas' farm just out of Biggenden.
  
• Between 1923 and 1929, when Ollie Johannesen was a small girl, Minnie would make clothes for her as Ollie's mother Nellie didn't have the time nor the abilty.
  
• At the age of 32 years and 15 days, Edith Mary Chambers married Henry Miller, son of Otto Miller and Friedriche Blindt, on 7 October 1929 in "Woodvale Farm", Woowoonga. They were married on Minnie's parents farm. "After the ceremony Minnie started to cry as her ring was so tight her finger swelled up and they got a dish of water and soap to get it off."

• Ellen Chambers was born on 30 August 1895 in Biggenden, Queensland.
• She was the daughter of Sampson Henry Chambers and Edith Mary Jefferis.
• Ellen Chambers commenced school between 1900 and 1905 in Childers. Because Ellen was too small to walk the five miles from "Woowoonga" to attend school in Biggenden, she went to stay with her Aunt Ellen at "Horton" near Childers. Her daughter says her mother always remembered the trip on horse back from "Woowoonga" to Childers with her father.

  "MRS JO' CELEBRATES 95TH BIRTHDAY WITH FRIENDS
  Biggenden resident, Mrs Ellen Johannesen, affectionately known as Mrs Jo' celebrated her 95 th birthday with relatives and friends last Thursday.
  Mrs Johannesen is a resident of the Biggeden hospital and was a guest of the Uniting Church Women's Fellowship for afternoon tea on Thursday where she was presented with a small gift.
  Attending the party were her sister Mrs Gert Norman, and daughter in law Mrs Beryl Johannesen, both of Maryborough.
  During the day Mrs Johannesen was treated to a family dinner, while on the previous day she received yet another birthday cake at the Friendship Centre. Mrs Johannesen enjoys playing cards, and is proud of the fact that she doesn't need to wear glasses. Mrs Norman added that Mrs Johannesen was a pretty good card player, and "just quietly, was no pushover". Since becoming a resident of the Biggenden Hospital almost two months ago, Mrs Jo has cross-stitched seven tablecloths. She also enjoys knitting coat hangers.
  Mrs Jo is one of the pioneers of the Uniting Church at Biggenden and relates some stories of the early days when she resided with her parents, Mrs and Mrs Chambers at Woowoonga. She remembers walking to "the opening" just 80 years ago. She said "the Church was crowded and the yard was full of horses". The distance she and her sister and brothers walked to be part of the opening was only five and a half miles. Mrs Jo recalls how the minister, who resided in the vestry at the back of the church in Biggenden, would ride his horse to visit them and be given a cup of tea and fresh bread made in the camp oven. "Stoves were hard to come by in those days" Mrs Jo remembers the times were hard, and when the Minister called asking for a donation Mrs Chambers said " I haven't any money but I will given you this silver dish" which had been a wedding present and much valued. It was used for many years in the Church as a collection plate. "The early church can boast of something that Biggenden today cannot, and that is a choir". Mrs Jo said there were some beautiful singing of the old hymns and the names of those she remembers in the choir were Lawrences, the Griggs, the Triggers and the Northgraves.
  Mrs Jo recalls what she called "The Moonlight Picnics" At these picnics they would play Jolly Miller, Twos and Threes and Drop the Hanky. "Woowoonga people then decided they wanted a church of their own and a committee was formed consisting of Mr CF Stark, Mr SH Chambers, Mrs JFE Voss, Mr FG Reinhardt and Mr JA Douglas. Mrs Stark and Mr Chambers went around in a horse and cart and collected and a church was purchased from Mt Perry and later moved to Woowoonga. This church is the present hall adjacent to the church in Biggenden."

The census shows that William was 34, born Rosliston, Derby, a packing case maker, living with his wife Ellen, 29 born Bloxwich, and their two children Anne aged 2 and William 1 month, both born in Walsall. Sampson Chambers, Ellen's brother also lived with them. He was 15 years old, born Bloxwich and a saddle maker.
  
  
• Ellen Chambers and William Kingston immigrated to Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia. The "El Dorado" departed Plymouth, England on 9 May 1883 and arrived in Cooktown on 26 June the same year. The ship reached Rockhampton in July. On board were William and Ellen Kingston and their two children Annie shown as 4 years old, and son William. William's occupation was recorded a cabinet maker and builder. Ellen's brother Sampson Chambers also came with the family. On his departure from England Sampson was given a book "The Life of Christ" by his sister Anne. The inscription read "From your loving sister Anne - March 1883.
  The family made their way overland to Bundaberg from Rockhampton.
  
  
• Some time after the family arrived in Queensland Ellen Chambers changed her name to Eleanor. Perhaps it was because her sister-in-law, the wife of Joseph Kingston was also know as Ellen. However, to her brother Sampson's family she was known as Ellen, signing her letters to them as Ellen. She is also recorded as Ellen Chambers on the birth records of her sons Alfren and Joseph.
  
• In January 1885 Eleanor (Ellen) and William Kingston lived in Stewart Street, Bundaberg. William was a labourer at this time.
• In 1886 Eleanor (Ellen) and William Kingston lived in Horton, Childers.According to the " Bundaberg & District Pioneers" book the family moved to Horton about 1886. William applied for a selection of of 103 acres 2 roods 23 perchs of land Portion # 1352 in the County of Cook, Parish of Childers (in the Abington district) and was granted commencement of lease on 25MAR1886 - Application to construct a homestead and purchase the land was made on 31MAR1891 on 2 roods 23 perchs of the lease - The cost of the land was 6 pence per acre ; totaling 2 pounds 12 shillings - James GRIFFIN and Joseph B WHITE swore that William had lived on the selection for the past 5 years from 25MAR1886 - Deed of Grant was passed on 08MAY1891. The following valuation of improvements were included on the application :-
  House & kitchen 50 Pounds
  20 Chain of 2 rail & paling fence 20 Pounds
  24 Chain of post, wire & paling fence 12 Pounds
  11 acres of clearing @ 5 pounds per acre 55 Pounds
  Total 137 Pounds.
  
  
• Circa 1895 William built the first church in the Childers district at Horton , the Methodist church.
• Around 1913 Eleanor (Ellen) wrote this letter to Nellie Chambers:- sic
  
  " January 15
  Horton
  My dear Nellie
  I got a letter from you a long time ago and also one from (Minne?) I was pleased to hear from you both I seem as if I hate to rite letters I would like to see you all we thought you r dadie was coming to see us it such a long while since we saw him if I live till the new line is done I shall come and see you I hope you are a good girl to your mother and father I should like to see Gerty your cousin Joe got a nice little girl they ---m stop? with? us yet Willies little boy died such a dear little chap we would have to have kept him but god took him we are all well as can be expected and we hope you are all --- girls are ---- now someday Percy Emett going to marry Elsie Griffen tell Minnie sometime I will write to her --- my love to mumie dadie and yourself and Minnie I hope you have got plenty of potates they are dear
  From your loving antie Elan"
  
  This letter may have been written a few weeks before her death on 6 Feb 1913 as she mentions the death of Clifford Kingston (Willies little boy who died 1912) and the birth of Clara Mills (your cousin Joe (husband of Ann Kingston) got a nice little girl - born 1912.)
  
• Eleanor (Ellen) and William Kingston appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1913. She was shown as living in Sunnymead, Horton.William was listed as a carpenter and Eleanor (Ellen)'s occupation was home duties.
  
• Eleanor (Ellen) died on 6 February 1913 in Horton, Childers, Queensland, Australia, at age 60 years and 5 days. Horton was the area where the family owned thei rcane farm on the Woodgate Road near Childers.
  
• Ellen was buried on 7 February 1913 in Apple Tree Creek Cemetery, Queensland.
  The gravestone reads:
  In Loving Memory of Eleanor, the beloved wife of William Kingston who died February 6 aged 61 years, also the above William Kingston who died August 22 1920 aged 74 years. Nearer my God to Thee.

• On 28 December 1914 In her letter to Minnie Chambers her aunt Emma Chambers wrote :-
  "I have not heard from your Uncle William for a long time so I dont know who he is living with. He sent us all a photo of your Auntie Ellen('s) Stone & we were all pleased with it. "

• She was the daughter of George Chambers and Elizabeth Jane German.
• At the time of the 3 April 1881 census, Emily Chambers was living in the household of George Chambers and Elizabeth Jane German in St Mawes, Cornwall. George snr is shown as a 52 year old fisherman living with his wife Elizabeth and their children: George E, a 25 year old fisherman; Thomas a 21 year old mason; Catherine 18; Ingleton 16, a fisherman; Edward 12 a scholar; Richard 8, a scholar and Emily 7 a scholar. All in the household were born in St Mawes.
  
  

Emily Ellen Chambers

• Emily Ellen Chambers was also known as Nell.
• She was born in 1906 in Brisbane, Queensland.
• She was the daughter of Harry Chambers and Sarah Ellen Earwacker.
• Emily Ellen Chambers enlisted in the AIF on 4 October 1940 in Crow's Nest. Her service number was QX6485 and she gave her next of kin as her father Harry Chambers. She was living at Crow's Nest at the time she enlisted. She was discharged on 8 May 1942 with the rank of Captain in the 9th Australian General Hospital.
  
• At the age of 36 years, Emily Ellen Chambers married John G Hooper on 8 May 1942 in St John's Cathederal, Brisbane. The marriage was announced in The Courier Mail :- "RETURNED NURSE TO WED A.IF. CAPTAIN
  
  SISTER NELL CHAMBERS, of Wyalla, Crow's Nest, will wear her army nurse's uniform when she is married to Captain John G. Hooper, A.I.P. (Laidley) , on Friday at 2.30 p.m. in St. John's Cathedral, Brisbane. Both bride and bridegroom are returned from active service in the Middle East, and Sister Chambers will arrive from Adelaide tomorrow. She will have another returned army nurse, Sister Carmody, as bridesmaid."
  

Emma Chambers

• Emma Chambers was born in 1865.
• She was the daughter of Sampson Chambers and Jane Jones.
• On 24 November 1868,Emma Chambers's mother, Jane Jones died in Bloxwich, Staffordshire, England, at age 36. Her death certificate shows she was 36 years old, the wife of Sampson Chambers a coal miner, and died from a strangulated hernia. Sampson was present when she died and he signed the certificate with his X mark.
• On 3 April 1870,Emma Chambers's father, Sampson Chambers died in 2 Court Dartmouth Street, Aston, Warwick, England, at age 44. According to his death certificate he was a 44 year old coal miner who died from ulceration of his stomach which he had suffered from for 18 months, and an intestinal obstruction for three days before his death. The death certificate was signed by Ann Middleton (with her X mark) and was registered on 6 April 1870.
  
• In 1871 Emma Chambers lived in 10 Church Street, Bloxwich, Staffordshire.
• At the time of the 2 April 1871 census, Emma Chambers was living in the household of Ann Jones and James Taylor in 10 Church Road, Bloxwich, Staffordshire. The census record shows Ann as a 50 year old, born Bloxwich living with her husband James,also shown as a 50 year old anvil blade maker born Bloxwich, and nieces Hariet aged 8, and Emma aged 6 and nephew Sampson Chambers aged 5. All the children were scholars. Ann Jones, Ann's mother, lived next door.
  
  
• Emma Chambers appeared on the census of 5 April 1891 in Duddeston, Aston. she is shown as 23 years old. Emma was possibly living with her older sister Ann.
  
• According to notes written by a relation of William Kingston (in 19 ) Emma had a shop in Liverpool.
  
• In 1901 there was an Emma Chambers living at Handsworth Staffordshire, born West Bromwich but this may not be the correct person.
  
• She appeared on the census of 1911.
• On 28 December 1914 Emma Chambers lived in 270 Netherfield Road North, Liverpool. She wrote the following letter to Minnie Chambers:-
  " My Dear Minnie
  I was delighted to get your nice long letter it is a treat to read your letters when they come. I think you are quite right about your dad writing do you know he has never written to me in his life and I don't think he will now although I dont give up hopes only if he does I shall frame his letter. I am glad to hear you are all well but feel sorry for your grandma. I am sure she will feel it very much her only son going to the War. Well dear Minnie we were all in great tr____ when war was declared in England on 4 August. Your cousin Elsie came for a few days and her young man but they had to pack up in haste and go home as the trains were wanted for the soldiers. It was a sad sight to seen them part from husbands mothers sweethearts it was heartrending and the poor Belgians what they must of suffered and we are not out of the woods yet for I suppose you will have seen in the papers they have had a smack at Scarboro and that is only 60 miles away from Liverpool & I believe they are anxious to have a smack at Liverpool but we are living hopes they will be driven back. I have been afraid your cousin Charlie and Austin would be called up but up to now they are at home. Well dear Minnie I did not go this Xmas for one thing it is such a long cold journey so I thought all being well I would go at Easter. Of course I heard from them all Auntie Annie Charlie Alice and Baby were all going to Auntie Eliza's so I know they would have a good time of it. I spent a very Happy Christmas with some Friends in Liverpool and I was glad when Xmas came I had decided not to go to B.h.ham for it was a very cold day much colder than last year. Although I should liked to of been there all the same and many a time I thought of Auntie. She is a real good sister and thinks of us all and when we are altogether your farther and all of you are thought of and talked of as well only you are so far away. I have had several letters from your Cousin Annie and she sent me the photos of her 3 children they are fine little kiddies also one of Willies children a nice little girl I think she has such a sweet face. Well you would laugh if you saw your cousin Charlies baby, he is a monster. Your Auntie Annie has him ruined of course you will have heard she reared your cousin Charlie. I was going to put little Charlie of course we used to call him that and even now make a mistake. His baby is called K(R)eith. I bet you have never heard that name before one of Auntie Annies choosing. So we have to say we like that name whether we do or not. I am up and the whole of the time writing this letter so you must please excuse all blunders and mistakes only I though you would like a letter. I have not heard from your Uncle William for a long time so I dont know who he is living with. He sent us all a photo of your Auntie Ellen('s) Stone & we were all pleased with it. I hope you have got your Xmas cards we sent wishing all of you a very happy New year and a safe return for your friends from the war. Love to all and your dear self. Your affect auntie E. C."
