After their marriage they lived for nine months at Delilah Station near Charleville before moving to Quilpie where Friedrich was employed as a dam maker and where Friedrich began maltreating Auguste. He also took to spending all his time in pubs and gambling both his and her money. Auguste left Friedrich in 1912 and lived with her brother in Quilpie for a time before moving to Stanthorpe in 1915 where she became involved with a Greek. Three children were born from 1916 to 1924 when the father returned to his homeland leaving Auguste with the children. She was granted a decree nisi in August 1934.
