Mrs Hamlyn, who also came out with her parents, did not change her name at marriage, as she was a distant relative of the bridegroom, her maiden name being Emily Elizabeth Crocker Hamlyn. She will be 78 on Monday. She lived at Ipswich and Brisbane before her marriage to Mr Hamlyn at Albert Sawmills (now Pechey), near Crow's Nest, by the late Rev T. Thatcher, on January 20th, 1879. Mr Hamlyn's parents were pioneers of Geham, in the Highfields distict, and he was one of the first pupils at the Geham State School. Mr and Mrs. Hamlyn followed farming pursuits at Geham until 1907, when they, took up a grazing property in the Taroom district. They lived there until they retired in 1926, and came to Southport. Mr Hamlyn was a member of the Highfields Shire Council for 15 years and a member of the Taroom council for three years. He is a member of the Southport Masonic Lodge and Bowling Club and is a very keen player. Mr. and Mrs Hamlyn have four sons Messrs T. S, (Indooroopilly), W. L., L J, and R. D. A happy gathering of relatives and friends were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hamlyn, at their residence, Noss, Main Beach Road, Southport, last Staturday afternoon, to celebrate their golden wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Hamlyn (who are aged 71 and 68 respectively) were married at
Albert Mills, Crow's Nest, Queensland, on January 20, 1879, by the Rev. T. Thatcher. They have four sons, four daughters, and 17 grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Hamlyn lived for 30 years in te Crow's Nest district, and Mr. Hamlyn was a member of the Highfields Shire Council for 15 years and also a member of the Taroom Shire Council for several years. He has been a Justice of the Peace for many years, and a member of the Justices' Association of Queensland; also a member of the Southport Masonic Lodge, and the Southport Bowling Club. The Wedding breakfast was partaken of at Mrs. Norman's tearoom, adjoining Mr. Hamlyn's residence, the Rev. C. A. Read presiding. The chairman, in proposing. the toast of "The Bride and Bridegroom," spoke in eulogistic terms of the honorable lives lived by Mr. and Mrs. Hamlyn duirng their 50 years of happy married life, and Mr. Hamlyn responded in suitable terms on behalf of himself and wife stating that he and the girl who afterwards became his wife both landed in Brisbane in 1865, coming out from England by the same boat. Mr. J. Stone, Mrs. T. Hamlyn's stepfather (who is 90 years of age) was also among the speakers. A unique feature of the gathering was the presence at the table of the lady and gentleman who had acted as bridesmaid and best man for Mr. and Mrs. T. Hamlyn at their marriage 50 years ago. These were Mr. H. Hamlyn (Helidon) and Mrs. D. Jones (Kelvin Grove), and the toast of their health was enthusiastically honored, followed by other toasts, the speakers including Messrs. J. Stone, D. M. Campbell." - Emily Elizabeth Crocker Hamlyn died on 10 August 1943 in Queensland.
