It was a bad day for him when he meddled with us : he (witness): enquired what they wanted, and the defendant immediately pulled off his coat, invited witness to come outside, and said he would take satisfaction out of him ; witness at length accepted the invitation, and went over into the defendant's paddock, when he was struck violently on the arm with a stick ; a general scrim mage took place, after which all parties appeared to be satisfied and went away. Cross-examined by Mr. Hamilton : My paddock is next the defendant's ; when I was invited to go over into the paddock the defendant was prepared for business ; 1 took off my coat when 1 got over the fence so as to be ready for the light. Thos. Walsh was present when the difficulty occurred ; the defendant charged Murphy with inflicting some malicious injury upon his cow, and said he would ' regulate' him' ; Murphy then went over the fence to institute a few preliminary inquiries when the defendant struck him across the arm with a stick. Cross-examined by Mr. Hamilton : I was present during the whole of the row ; the light took place in M'Quillan's paddock, and they both appeared to be determined for a fight. The case was dismissed.
