- On 19 June 1929 Cecil was injured while he was cutting fire wood. The incident was again reported in "The Brisbane Courier" on 20 June 1929. It read:- SAWMILL ACCIDENT.
MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED. TOOWOOMBA. June 19.
Cecil Perina (aged 29 years), a farmer, living near Crow's Nest, re- ceived serious injuries to-day while changing a belt on a saw bench at which he had been cutting firewood, when he was caught in it and thrown against the pulley. He received a fracture of the right thigh, a punctured wound on the left leg, lacerations to both legs, and shock. Dr Williams, of Crow's Nest, attended the injured man. The Toowoomba Ambulance brought Perina into the Toowoomba Hospital. His condition is said to be serious. - In 1938 Cecil received an award for bravery. The following article appeared in The Courier Mail on Thursday 24 March 1938 :- Awards For Bravery In Bush Fire TOOWOOMBA, Wednesday. — When opening the Toowoomba Show to-day the Governor Sir Leslie Wilson) presented Royal Humane Society certificates to Ambulance Bearer M. McQuillan and Mr. V. C. C. Perina. for their acts of bravery in a bush fire in the Crow's Nest district on October 28 1936.

- Thomas Perkins was born on 9 February 1823 in Clipson, Northamptonshire, England. He was the son of William PERKINS and Elizabeth BUSHELL.
- At the age of 24 years, 8 months and 12 days, Thomas Perkins married Charlotte Jones on 21 October 1847 in Clipston, Leicestershire.
- Thomas Perkins and Charlotte Jones immigrated to Australia arriving in Moreton Bay on 25 September 1850. They travelled with their daughter Charlotte. The immigration record showed Thomas (the son of William and Elizabeth Perkins) was a 27 year old shepherd, native of Chepstowe, Northumberland and Charlotte (nee Jones) was 27 years old. (She is listed as a Convalscent - 1850). Their infant daughter Charlotte, native of Chepstowe was with them.
In 1855 Thomas bought two blocks of land at Spring Creek two years later and the family began farming there. According to his obituary he managed Cecil Plains Station from 1858-1860, though his son Thomas was born there in 1857. The family then moved back to Toowoomba where Thomas became the first butcher. - Thomas Perkins Conditionally selected land - he chose two blocks of agricultural land each of 320 acres - Register Numbers 412/413 on 29 September 1870.
- On 27 July 1874,his wife, Charlotte Jones died in Spring Creek, Queensland, at age 51.
- At the age of 52 years, 10 months and 16 days, Thomas Perkins married Annie Maria Brown on 25 December 1875 in Toowoomba, Queensland. Several years after their marriage Annie and Thomas moved north to a farm at between Emu Creek and Thornville. The older children helped to work the farm. The posts of the old cow bails are still standing and can be seen from the Emu Creek-Cooyar roadway.
- On 16 January 1892,his wife, Annie Maria Brown died in Queensland at age 37. She died during or just after the birth of her ninth child Walter Herbert.
- On 29 August 1892 Thomas added the names of his children James 12, Mabel G 9 and Annie B 11 to the list of children likely to attend the proposed new Mossview School. He lived on Portion 100V about 2 miles from the site. The children had previously attended Goombungee School.
- Thomas Perkins appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1903 living at Djuan. Tom was a grazier. His son James was a farmer at Djuan at the time.
- Thomas Perkins died on 1 January 1912 in Emu Creek, Crow's Nest, Queensland, at age 88. Thomas was blind for the last ten years of his life and lived with his daughers.
- Thomas was buried in Emu Creek Cemetery.
- The Methodist Church in Crow's Nest erected memorial plaques to early Crow's Nest Pioneers on the Church fence. Thomas and Ann's names were amongst them.
