He returned to Australia on 16 Sep 1919 after serving on the Western Front. He was awarded the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
  • Thomas was the best man at the wedding of Deborah Ann Patch and Gideon Arthur Pott, son of James Pott and Margaret Ellen Nicol, on 15 August 1923 in St Matthews Catholic Church, Crow's Nest, Queensland; Arthur was the manager of Nukinenda Station, son of Mr and Mrs J Pott of Cork Station, Winton.

The deceased died at two o'clock on Sunday afternoon, the cause of death being consumption. Mr Primmer was born in Nelson, where he was for many years well known as a hunter of big game, a cricketer, and a member of the local Cavalry Corps. He came to this district some nineteen years a go, and was for some little time after his arrival engaged in cattle and sheep dealing on his own account, afterwards entering the employ of Mr Jas. Buckley, of Lagmhor Estate, with whom he remained for about sixteen year 3, residing at Tinwald. Mr Primmer came to Ashburton about a year ago, and started a restaurant in East Street, He leaves a widow, a son, and a married daughter (Mrs H. Hewson). The funeral' takes place to-morrow at 2.30 at the Ashburton Cemetery."
