Joseph's sister Alice 1, and Joseph 5 were listed as future students for the proposed school but, according to the book, 125th Anniversary of Crow's Nest State School, it was a Claud Cronk who started at the new school. This may be an error and should have been Joseph. The teacher was William Jenkinson who was untrained and had to cope with an under-equipped school. There were no blackboards, slates, books etc. He left a few months later and was replaced by David Moylan.
  
• Claud Cronk was a creditor of the insolvent estate of Cameron and Hebbel. A meeting of creditors in the insolvent estate of John Cameron and John Heinrich Hebbel trading as timber merchants of Toowoomba took place in Toowoomba. Amongst the creditors were Thomas Cullen £10 3s 4d, Thomas Brennan £39; H A Shum £34; Claud Cronk 44; George Parton £22.

He started life in Brisbane as a carter, aud proceeded to Gympie when the gold rush broke out. Later he was engaged in horse-droving in the Western district. In 1870 he was married to Miss Cumnungs, only daughter of the late Mr and Mrs. Cummings, of Lappgate Grove,England. He then went to Toowoomba, and later, to Pechey. He selected land
  at Cooby Creek, where he resided until his death. He leaves a widow, three sons and five daughters."

Claud Cronk

• On 18 July 1905 William had a horse riding accident. The Brisbane Courier reported:- " While William Cronk was mustering bullocks this morning his horse fell and rolled on him, causing serious injuries. He is now unconscious, and is being conveyed by road to Toowoomba. The Ambulance has been wired for to meet him. The Ambulance Brigade met Cronk two miles from Crow's Nest, and rendered first aid. He was found to he suffering from severe internal injuries and haemorrhage, and an injury to his left shoulder. Cronk was conveyed by the brigade to the Toowoomba Hospital-upwards of thirty miles. He was reported to-night to be in a critical condition.
