Wilhelm aged 30, and Mathilda 22 and baby August travelled on the Waroonga departing London on 5 Apr 1887 with Wilhelm's brother Rheinholdt Vonhoff aged 16.
  • In April 1894 Wilhelm was out shooting with August when an accident occured. The Brisbane Courier reported:- TOOWOOMBA, April l8.
    A farmer named Vonhoff was out wallaby shooting at Douglas on Sunday accompanied by his son, a lad 10 years of age. In the dusk he mistook the lad for a wallaby and riddled him with pellets. The boy was brought in to the hospital, where he is now progressing favourably.

He sold the farm -Welke Road, Groomsville (Sub-division 3 of Portion 3619 with an area of 54 acres 1 rood 24 perches) on 5 Mar 1909 to Walter Astbury. Wilhelm jnr returned from Germany to Groomsvillle in 1909 to marry his sweetheart, followed by August in 1910. Wilhelm jnr bought their old farm back from Walter Astbury on 25 Jan 1912. After Wilhelm senior died in Germany in 1912, Mathilde decided to return to Australia with the rest of the family in Jan 1914. Robert remained until after the war.

VONHOFF YARRAMAN, Oct. 26. - The death occurred suddenly, after a short illness in the Nanango Hospital, of August Hermann Wilhelm Vonhoff, a well-known farmer of the Yarraman district. He was born in Germany and came to Australia as a child with his parents in 1887. He married Miss Olga Wilhelmlne Hoppe at Geham on May 12, 1920. He leaves his wife, and two sons, Eric and George, and two grandchildren. The late Mr. Vonhoff followed contract work for a time and well sinking in the Groomsville district. Later he took up farming in the Crow's Nest district and resided there for 14 years. He was a foundation member of the Lutheran Church in Crow' s Nest when it was established 22 years ago. Later he sold his property and came to live at Yarraman 12 years ago. He was occupied in farming until his death. He was the eldest of five brothers and four sisters. The funeral left the Crow's Nest Lutheran Church on Tuesday after a service, for the Crow's Nest Cemetery. A large number of relatives and friends attended. Pastors F. H. Schmidt (Kingaroy) and Venz (Highfields officiated at the church, and graveside.

    The Queensland Dairyfarmers Organisation has paid tribute to former dairy farmer and industry representative Ivan Vonhoff who died on Wednesday, aged 85.

    Mr Vonhoff received an Order of Australia Medal in 2008 for his service to the Lutheran Church of Australia, to the dairy industry through a range of executive roles, and to the community.

    The QDO said Mr Vonhoff was a very active participant in the dairy industry and advocacy organisations.

    He was a QDO State and District Councillor for many years and was also chairman and director of the Darling Downs Unity Milk Co-operative.

    He was chairman of the Queensland Butter Board from 1987-97, a member of the Crows Nest Rural Fire Board, and heavily involved in the Lutheran Church.

    He was a member of the Church Council (Qld District) from 1961-2004 and chairman of St Luke’s Lutheran Church in Crows Nest for about 50 years.

    Mr Vonhoff was also Shire Chairman (Mayor) of Crows Nest Shire from 1988-93.

    His funeral will be held at 10:30am on Friday, July 7, at St Luke’s, Crows Nest.
