M. Arthur (70) who was a well known resident of the Richmond River district for many years. Born at Saddleback, near Kiama, the deceased came with his parents and other members of the family to the Dunoon district in the year 1881. There they assisted in the pioneering of the "big scrub" country.
    The late Mr. Arthur was an ardent supporter of the Methodist Church, and was a member of a band of young men who helped to pioneer the movement in the early days when cottage meetings were conducted. Together with the late "Dad" Richardson, who died some two years ago, he sat for his examination as local preacher, which work he carried on for 50 years.
    After following the occupation of farming at Dunoon for many years, deceased disposed of his interests there and went to Crow's Nest (Q), where he acquired a farm. He sold this a few years ago and, after mov ing to Toowoomba, was in business there until the time of his death.
    He is survived by five brothers, Messrs. W. J. Arthur (Lismore), H. E Arthur (Crow's Nest), S. K. Arthur (Lillian Rock), A. G. Arthur and W A. Arthur (Mullumbimby). Step sisters are Mrs. John Hewitson (Lismore) and Mrs. Jarman (Eltham.)"

    Mr. Gavin Arthur, an early selector of land in the Dorroughby district, died at Mosman (Sydney) on Sunday, following a long illness. Mr. Arthur was 79 years of age. He selected land at Dorroughby in 1880, and remained at that centre until 1908 when he moved to Bald Hills (Queensland) where he was engaged in fruit growing. He returned to New South Wales a few years later, acquiring property on the Wyrallah road, near Lismore. A few years ago he retired and went to live at 19 Clifford-street, Mosman. He was twice married, the death of his first wife taking place At Dunoon about 30 years ago. A widow survives. Children of the first marriage and who are still living are Messrs. William (Dorroughby), Herbert (Dorroughby), Amos Arthur (Glen Innes), sons, and Mesdames Henry Arthur (Crow's Nest, Queensland), L. Gaggin (Lismore) and J. Hill (South Lismore). Surviving children of the second marriage are Mrs. Ashton (Sydney) and Miss Rita Arthur (Mosman, Sydney). Messrs. Matthew Arthur (Crow's Nest) and James Arthur (Binalong) are brothers, as were the late Messrs. William Arthur (Bexhill), Robert Arthur (Brisbane), John Arthur (Tenterfield) and Alex Arthur (Dorroughby).
