The house was one large room divided into four with hessian. Later he built a six roomed house which cost 100 pounds. There were 10 children in the family. They had no shed for milking the cows and as soon as each child learned to milk a cow he sat on a block and milked so many each. The separator was fixed on a tree block with two sheets of iron overhead for a roof. In those days admission to dances was 1/6 and a bottle of Wine 1/-.
