- The following was published in a book celebrating the Haden Centenary “John Kann spent his early life in Highfields and Meringandan areas. He married Miss Johanna Mason and settled in Haden, having bought land from Mr Noll. A portion of this area was resumed by the Railway Department when the Line to Haden was surveyed. He was usually referred to as the “Mayor of Haden” as he was a member of every committee in the District. A portion of his land was also surveyed into Allotments in the township of Haden and a Street “Kann Street” named after him. They reared a large family and had the early morning milk delivery around town for many years. Two sons joined the Police Force and two daughters took up the Nursing profession. He was also the receiving agent at Haden for the Darling Downs Bacon Factory.
After her Husband’s death Mrs Kann sold the Haden property to Mr Blinco and resided in Crow’s Nest for the later part of her life”.
