Susan Baker is shown as the head of the household, 40 years old, independant, born Somerset. Living with her are Thomas Baker, 11, born overseas, an agricultural labourer, and Elizabeth, aged 9 also born overseas.
- At the time of the 30 March 1851 census, Elizabeth Baker was living in the household of Susanna Unknown in Love Lane, Illminster, Somerset. The census details show the head of the household as Susan Baker, a 59 year old labourer's widow born Kingsbury Somerset. Living with her are son Thomas 20 unwed,a blacksmith born India and Elizabeth, daughter 19 a flax factory girl born India.
There were also 3 lodgers in the house, 2 charwomen and an agricultural labourer. - Elizabeth's father was enlisted in the British Army and served in India where Elizabeth was born. Family hearsay is that the Bakers did not wish their daughter to marry William French who they considered below their station. William and Elizabeth then eloped and eventually came to Australia.
- At the age of 21 years, 6 months and 9 days, Elizabeth Baker married William French, son of Jacob French and Hannah Osborne, on 13 September 1853 in Ilminster, Somerset, England. Elizabeth and William were married by banns, their witnesses being John Clarke and Francis Taylor. - William is listed as a weaver of Ilminister as is Elizabeth - his father Jacob French - Labourer; her Father Thomas Baker - cooper. Both William and Elizabeth signed with their mark, although Elizabeth could write. Both were Church of England.
- Elizabeth Baker's and William French's son Thomas was born in 1854 in Somerset.
- Elizabeth Baker and William French immigrated to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, on 16 December 1855. The "Maitland" departed Southhampton and arrived in Sydney on the 22 April 1856. With William and Elizabeth was their young son, Thomas aged 18 months. Sadly he died on the voyage to Australia. Their second son John was born on the voyage. According to immigration records, William, aged 24, could neither read or write at the time he migrated to Australia. William's occupation at the time of his marriage to Elizabeth was a weaver, but at the time he immigrated he was listed as a farm labourer, perhaps to improve his chances of being accepted as a person useful to the colony of Australia. William stated he had been born at Hazelbury, Somerset and that his father Jacob French was deceased but his mother Hannah was living at Wiesit, Somerset.
Elizabeth, aged 24, could both read and write. Her parents Thomas and Eliza Baker were both deceased. Both William and Elizabeth were Church of England. - Elizabeth Baker's and William French's third and fourth children James William and Eliza Jane was born between 1858 and 1860 in Castlereagh, New South Wales. . During this time William was working as a labourer at Caslereagh (west of Sydney.)
- The family moved several times over the next few years. Daughter Ellen was born at Gostwyck (south of Armidale) on 11 January 1864. They moved back to the Paterson River district where Elizabeth was born on 25 February 1866. The family once again moved north. George was born at "Walhalla" Station near Werris Creek (south of Tamworth) in 1867 where William worked for the Christian family before moving with them to Clifton Station near Tenterfield around 1870.
- He was a Major in the Salvation Army having been one of the first members in Tenterfield. In the only known photo of her she is wearing her Salvation Army badge.
- On 10 July 1878,her husband, William French died in Six Mile, Tenterfield, New South Wales, at age 46. James French gave the following information about his father at the time of his death. At the time James, like his father was a farmer of Six Mile. William's cause of death was a heart disease from which he had suffered for three months, he was 47 years old, had lived in Australia for 23 years, parents NOT KNOWN, spouse Elizabeth Baker, children 4 males and 3 females. The medical attendant was A W Bateman who last saw William on the day he died. His youngest child, William George was only three years old.
- At the age of 46 years, 8 months and 7 days, Elizabeth Baker married Richard Hoskin, son of James Hoskin and Phillipa Allen, on 11 November 1878 in Tenterfield, New South Wales. Both Elizabeth and Richard Hoskin lived on Clifton Station at the time of their marriage. Richard senior, was a 60 year old widowed farmer and Elizabeth a 47 year old widow when they married. James Christie, the Station Owner, and Elizabeth Jane Bezanson (who was Elizabeth's eldest daughter and who had married a few months before) were witnesses to their marriage.
- Elizabeth Baker witnessed the marriage of John Maitland French and Elizabeth Ann Bailey on 4 March 1879 in Tenterfield, New South Wales, Australia; She lived with her parents at the time of her marriage. Witnesses to the marriage were William Bailey (either Elizabeth's brother or father), a labourer and Elizabeth French.
- Both Elizabeth Baker and her daughter Eliza Jane French were members of the Salvation Army.
- On 1 October 1893,her husband, Richard Hoskin died in Tenterfield, New South Wales, at age 75. After Richard's death Elizabeth most likely went to live with one of her daughters and their family. She probably moved to Queensland with them.
- Elizabeth Baker died on 22 February 1910 in Archibald Street, Cocks Estate, Toowoomba, Queensland, at age 77. She was living with her daughter Elizabeth Werner at the time of her death. The cause of death was listed as Bright's Disease. She also suffered from aortic heart disease. Her daughter Elizabeth Werner was the informant. Elizabeth Werner signed with her mark.
- Elizabeth was buried on 24 February 1910 in Drayton & Toowoomba Cemetery, Toowoomba. The funeral left from Archibald Street. T J Masters of the Salvation Army conducted the burial. Elizabeth is buried in an unmarked grave.
- William and Elizabeth's names are amongst those on a memorial in Rotary Park, Tenterfield.
