- Norman Hooper enlisted in the AIF on 23 January 1917 in Ipswich. Regimental Number 2314, QX He was 18 years and 6 months old, a labourer born Boonah. His next of kin was listed as his mother Caroline Hooper c/- Post Office, Boonah. He was 5'7" tall, 144 lbs, with grey eyes, fair hair and a fresh complexion. He was a trooper in the 11th Lighhorse. He served in the Suez and was hospitalised with Malaria in October 1917 and spent time in hospital in Abbassia, Moascar before going to Palestine. He was again hospitalised numerous time until he returned to Australia on 20 July 1919. He was discharged on 28 August 1919. Norman Hooper of the 11th Light Horse was involved in a court martial on 25 November 1918, but nothing appears on his service record, although some lines of information are missing around that date - from the Archives [HOOPER Norman : Service Number - 2314 : Unit - 11th Australian Light Horse Regiment, Australian Imperial Force : HOWELL Albert John Robert 2073, 1st Field Troop, Australian Expedition, Australian Imperial Force : Date of Court Martial - 25 November 1918].

It read "FUNERAL-The Friends of Mr JOHN HOOPER, sen., deceased, of Boonah, are respectfully invited to attend his Funeral, to leave his late residence, Church Street, for the Boonah Cemetery, at 2 o'clock TOMORROW (SATURDAY) AFTERNOON. W H Abell Undertaker." - On 1 September 1924,his wife, Caroline Bergmann died in Kelvin Grove, Brisbane, Queensland, at age 48.

- On 29 November 1837Roger Hooper was named as a beneficiary of Ann Farr's will. "The last will and testament of Ann Hooper, widow of Thomas Hooper deceased, of Eggwood Lane in the Parish of Merriott.
I give my soul to God who gave it in humble faith and hope that for the sake and merits of my dear Redeemer he will in Mercy receive it back to himself.
I give my body to the dust from which ist was made to be buried in Merriott Church yard in the grave with my beloved son Jesse by the side of my dear husband ___
I give the cottage in which I live with the garden around it to my son Robert Hooper who resides with me.
I give my goods and chattels to the same Robert Hooper with the proviso that if Thomas Hooper my son should return that Robert Hooper shall give him proportion of my best bed on which I have lain with the bedstead and bedding.
I give my wearing apparel between my daughter Susan and my daughter in law Mary the wife of Samuel Hooper.

"I also give to my son Roger Hooper one moiety or half of the piece of plot of garden called Thomas's garden, and I give the other moiety or half of the said garden to my son Thomas Hooper now abroad but in case of his death to the sole use and benefit of my daughter Susan and her children and if _____ Thomas Hooper should not return home I desire that the half garden bequeathed to him be occupied and held by my daughter Susan for her use.

"The appended will of the late Ann Hooper (who died Dec 24, 1837 and was buried according to her will on Saturday Dec 30th, 1837) was read in the presence of Roger Hooper, Robert Hooper, Mary wife of Samuel Hooper and Susan wife of William Forster, the daughter named in the said will, on January the 3rd 1838 who gave their consent to its contents and determined to abide by it and act accordingly.
In the presence of Joseph Crop, Vicar of Merriott."
It appears that none of her other children were living at the time. - Roger Hooper appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 in Broadway, Merriott, Somerset. The census record shows Roger as a 64 year old widowed cattle doctor born Merriott living with Rachel Hooper his unmarried 24 year old daughter in law born in Merriott. His granddaughter Martha aged 8 born Merriott is also living with them.
- He appeared on the census of 7 April 1861 in Broadway, Merriott, Somerset. Roger is shown as a 73 year old veterinary Surgeon born Merriott. Living with him is his son George 34, an agricultural labourerborn Merriott and his wife Rachel born Gailbaker ?and his two grandchildren Martha aged 10 born Merriott and George jr aged 3 born in Merriott.
- Roger Hooper died on 25 September 1863 in Merriott, Somerset, at age 74. The burial record shows Roger was 75 years old.
