  • Henry Newton was born in 1851 in Cloyton, Devonshire. He was the son of John Newton, a dairyman and Mary White.
  • At the age of 24 years, Henry Newton married Louisa Pearce on 27 April 1875 in Church of St Mary the Virgin, Cardiff, Wales.
  • Henry Newton immigrated to Brisbane on 22 August 1875. Henry 23, and Louisa 22 travelled on the Ophelia. Henry worked for two years at Clifton Station before selecting land at Mt Kent, west of Nobby.
  • In 1892 the family moved to a selection on Emu Creek, at Djuan in the Haden District. in 1900 they purchased Portion 3 at Djuan, 690 acres. They built their house on this land and gradually expanded their holdings to over 2000 acres, including that of their son John. Here they milked over 100 cows by hand and ran a very successful dairy and cheese factory. "Old Newton's Cheese" was very much in demand.
  • He enrolled his daughter Rose Annie Newton in school at Crow's Nest State School in 1901.
  • Henry Newton enrolled his daughter Violet May Newton in school at Crow's Nest State School in 1902.
  • Henry Newton and Louisa Pearce appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1903 living at Djuan. Henry was a farmer. Their son John William was also farming at Djuan and most likely lived with them.

  • John William Newton was born on 18 February 1878 in Mt Kent (near Nobby), Queensland.
  • He was the son of Henry Newton and Louisa Pearce.
  • At age 11 John left home to work on his parent's farm, helping his mother stack wheat sheaves while his father did the pitching. He also lived in a tent while helping his father clear his newly selected land at Gowrie Flat. On one of his trips to Crow's Nest John aged 11, withnessed a brawl. He had to ride 15 miles to Crow's Nest, stay in the local pub and give evidence in the law suit that followed.
    When the family moved to Gowri Flat John remained on the Mt Kent property until his father sold it.
    He was a very good cricket player and expert shot.
  • In 1901 John William Newton lived in Djuan. John was listed on the Crow's Nest Post Office directory as a farmer of Djuan.
  • He appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1903 living at Djuan. John was a farmer, most likely living with his parents Henry and Louisa.
  • At the age of 25 years, 4 months and 19 days, John William Newton married Sarah Ruth White, daughter of Henry Gilbert White and Mary Ann Underwood, on 7 July 1903 in Haden, Queensland. They had seven children.
