The Brisbane Courier reported:- " A remarkable incident occurred at Emu Creek on the 8th instant (writes the correspondent of last Saturday's Toowoomba " Chronicle"), by which Mr. Tigell's daughter, Roma, aged 14 years, marvellously escaped being killed. She and her eldest sister, Netta, were drawing water from Mr. M. Collins's well, which is opposite to Mr. Tigell's farm. They had put the bucket into the mouth of the well, and it began to descend very rapidly. Roma, seeing this, put out her hand to steady the roller, when, to the horror of her sister, she fell in. The well is about 70ft. deep, with 9ft. of water. Netta, terribly frightened, and not daring to look down, ran for assistance. Mr. M. Collins was soon on the scene, but what was his surprise to find the girl un- injured, and some distance above the water. She had climbed about 5ft., with the aid of the rough slabs. Needless to say, she was soon taken up, nothing the worse, save a few scratches, for her immersion and great fall."
