" A link with the early days of the Darling Downs has been severed by the death of Mr. Frederick William Weber, of Nara, near Goombungee. Born at Douglas, which then formed part of the vast station owned by the late Colonel King, on January 27, 1865, the late Mr Weber lived all his life in the district. He saw it develop from a state of scrub into a prosperous agricultural district On December 29, 1892, he married Magdalena, daughter of the late Mr.and Mrs. Clause Lau, also of Douglas, and she survives him. Their first home was near Goombungee. Later they lived at Gowrie and Silverleigh, and finally at Nara. Their home is noted for its hospitality, and "Boxing Night at Weber's Barn" has always been one of the local functions of the festive season. A keen business man and a capable farmer with great energy, the late Mr. Weber did well on the Downs, and his name is well known in farming pursuits. About three years ago he met with a serious accident when he fell from a windmill and suffered a fractured leg and internal injuries. These in juries probably led to the illness which caused his death. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Goebel, of Toowoomba, his widow, one son, Henry, of Brymaroo, four daughters. Mrs. Woods (Kelvinaugh), Mrs. Blades and Mrs. Koch (Perrinuan) and Mrs. Sharp (Nara), and 11 grandchildren. The funeral moved to the Oakey Cemetery, Rev. E. H. Denning officiating."

    BONES OF MAN
    FOUND IN BUSH

    — A month after the Supreme Court had granted leave to presume a man's death, two men found what is believed to be his skeleton. The man, Edward Julius Wecker, disappeared from his home in the Kingaroy district on September 16, 1936. Last month the Supreme Court gave leave to Wecker's son, as proposed administrator of his £9500 estate, to swear his father's death. Ron Lock, of Kingaroy, found the skeleton at Mt. Wooroolin, two miles from Kingaroy, on Sunday. He and a friend were searching for ferns. The skeleton included a lower jaw hone, but was minus a skull. The bones were scattered over a distance of about 30 yards. Fit description Police who examined the bones said they tallied with Wecker's description. In September 1945 a skull, minus the bottom jaw, was found three quarters of a mile from where the skeleton was found on Sunday. Evidence at an inquest which the District Coroner (Mr. S. E. Mosson) held on the skull pointed to it being Wecker's.
