It was named Shannon Memorial Park and was opened by the church on 3 April 1954. Cecil financed his purchase from profits he made from his Shannon's Chips vans which visited almost every country show in Queensland and northern NSW. Cecil was awarded a Order of Australia for his contribution to the Carnimval of Flowers.
