A Toowoomba message reports: A tragic shooting accident, which resulted in the death of a young boy, Max Lowien, aged 101/2 years, occurred at Meringandan.
Max Lowien and his brother, Roy, aged 14 1/2; years, had been playing with a pea rifle during the morning, and shortly after 4 o'clock on Sunday afternoon they left him to bring in the cows. There was in the house a 22 calibre revolver, and the boys must have taken this. They had just left the house, and were only a few paces from the front gate, when Max was seen to fall. His uncle, who was driving along the road, asked what was wrong with Max, and the elder boy answered, 'Nothing.' His uncle got off the trap, and went to the boy, who was bleeding, and had been shot just over tho heart. Death was instantaneous. The older boy said he was not aware that he had discharged the revolver, but becoming frightened, he threw the weapon away. Later, he showed Constable Johnson, of Meringandan, where the revolver was.
