Sarah McAdams

• Sarah McAdams was born in 1823 in Woolwich, England. She was the daughter of James McAdam and Ann Ratty.
• She was baptized on 9 April 1823 in St Marys, Chatham, Kent.
• She appeared on the census of 30 March 1851 in Orchard Place, Plumstead, Kent. She was a 28 year old living with her widowed aunt Hannah Kemp. No occupation was given.
  
  
• She immigrated to Adelaide on 25 March 1854. Sarah travelled on the Sir Edward Parry which departed England on 22 Dec 1853. She was listed as a domestic servant.
• At the age of 31 years, Sarah McAdams married Thomas Bridgeman, son of Robert Bridgeman and Sarah Wanstall, on 23 October 1854 in Trinity Church, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. She was a 32 year old spinster and he a 42 year old widowed carpenter. Witnesses to the marriage were Francis Kelly and Mary Ann Jolly.
  
• Sarah McAdams and Thomas Bridgeman immigrated to New Zealand in 1855. Just when Thomas and Sarah arrived in New Zealand is uncertain. Family hearsay has it that they travelled on the ship Gil Blass from Melbourne on 3 September 1855, as steerage passengers under the name of Mr and Mrs Adams. Sarah would have been eight months pregnant at the time. (Taranaki Bridgeman family hearsay) has it that Thomas 'jumped ship' and was liable for severe punishment, if he had been caught . Does this refer to Thomas' leaving the HMS Britomart without permission way back in 1841 when Owen Stanley surveyed Auckland harbour?
  
  But why travel when your are 8 months pregnant, (although this is what Jane Eyles did when she sailed from Nelson in 1835), and why under an assumed name, only to revert to your correct name once you are settled. A James Adams was born in 1856 but to a Margret and James Adams. Three more children were born to Thomas and Sarah McAdam - Thomas Henry in Otago in 1857, South Island and twins Priscilla and Sarah in 1859, all under the name of Bridgeman. Sometime before 1880 the family moved to the New Plymouth district in the North Island where their daughter Sarah died in 1880.
  
• On 3 October 1855,Sarah McAdams's son, James Adams Bridgeman was born in Milton, South Island, New Zealand. According to family hearsay he was born in a tent at Milton and, in later life, had a wooden leg.
  
• On 9 June 1880,Sarah McAdams's daughter, Sarah Bridgeman was buried in Inglewood Cemetery at age 21.
• Sarah McAdams died on 31 July 1885 in New Zealand.

Elizabeth Duciat McAlpine

• Elizabeth Duciat McAlpine was born circa 1886 in Scotland. She was the daughter of William McAlpine.
  
• Elizabeth Duciat McAlpine married Thomas Staines, son of John Carroll Staines and Alice Dawes, in June 1918 in Petersham, New South Wales. The Carowinda Star and Eugowra News reported:- "A pretty wedding was celebrated recently in the Methodist Church, Leichhardt, by the Rev. Mr. Hathgate, when Elizabeth, youngest daughter of Mr. William McAlpine, of Edinburgh, Scotland, was united in matrimony with Thomas Staines, late private of the 2nd Battalion, A.I.F., and eldest son of Mr. J. C. Staines, of Canowindra. After the ceremony the guests adjourned to the residence of Mrs. Power, aunt of the bride, where they sat down to a sumptuous breakfast, afterwards catching the train for Cauowindra — their future home. The bridegroom's present to the bride was a gold bangle, and to the bridesmaid, a gold signet ring. There were numerous other presents."
  
• On 26 June 1958,her husband, Thomas Staines died in Canowindra, New South Wales, at age 72.

Ann McAndrews

• Ann McAndrews was born on 11 May 1864 in Truro, Cornwall.
• Her marriage, at 17 years and 6 months, to Edward Owen, son of James Thomas Barquieth Owen and Margaret Spurling, was registered in the December 1881 Quarter in Lambeth, London Registration District.
• Ann McAndrews and Edward Owen immigrated to Queensland on 9 February 1887. Edward 24, Annie 21, and their children Edward 4 and Annie 1 travelled on the Roma. The family made their way to the Crow's Nest district where Frederick was born the same year. Brother Charles followed in 1889.
  
• Ann McAndrews witnessed the burial of William Henry Owen on 7 December 1899 in Cabarlah Cemetery.
• Ann McAndrews and Edward Owen appeared on the Electoral Roll in 1903 living at Douglas. Edward was a farmer. The entire family appear to have moved to Brisbane in the early 1900's.
  
• Ann McAndrews died on 30 March 1943 in Brisbane, Queensland, at age 78.
